Bangladesh Ropes in Jon Lewis as Batting Coach

  • Bangladesh appointed Jon Lewis as batting coach for the upcoming two bilateral series against the West Indies and New Zealand.
  • Lewis who had served as batting coach of Sri Lanka cricket team, will step in the shoes of Neil McKenzie, who stepped down in August 2020 citing family reasons.

Ravi Shastri Unveils Sunil Gavaskar's Portrait at SCG

    • Former India all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri unveiled a portrait of batting great Sunil Gavaskar at the Sydney Cricket Ground on the eve of the 3rd Test between India and Australia at the iconic venue.
    • Sunil Gavaskar's portrait will be displayed at the Sydney Cricket Ground museum before being taken to Bowral Museum at Bradman Center in New South Wales. Gavaskar's portrait will be displayed alongside the portrait of legendary Sachin Tendulkar which is already on display.
    • Ravi Shastri also released a book, 'India's 71-Year Test: The Journey to Triumph in Australia' that traces the journey of India cricket teams in Australia.

Sanjay Kapoor Elected All India Chess Federation President

  • Sanjay Kapoor was elected president of All India Chess Federation (AICF) while Bharat Singh Chauhan retained the secretary's post in the polls held online.
  • Kapoor, representing Uttar Pradesh Chess Association, defeated incumbent PR Venketrama Raja in a close contest. Kapoor received 33 votes as against 31 of Raja.
  • Chauhan beat Ravindra Dongre 35-29.
  • Naresh Sharma, belonging to the Chauhan faction, was elected as treasurer, beating Kishore Bandekar 34-30.
  • The AICF has been split into two factions, one led by Raja and the other by Chauhan. The two have been at loggerheads for some time over various issues, including the conduct of the elections.
  • Several legal battles were fought in the past one and a half year and there were instances when the president and the secretary suspended each other at different times.

Claire Polosak Creates History in Sydney

  • Australia's Claire Polosak became the first female match official in a men's Test match as she took up the fourth umpire's role in the third Test between India and Australia starting in Sydney.
  • Claire from New South Wales has already earned the distinction of being the first woman on-field umpire in a men's ODI match in ICC's Division 2 league between Namibia and Oman played at the Windhoek in 2019.
  • As per ICC rules for Test matches, the fourth umpire is appointed by the home cricket board from their nominees to the International Panel of ICC Umpires and from the host country.

Gregg Clark is Analytical Coach of Indian Men's Hockey Team

  • South African Olympian Gregg Clark has been appointed as the new analytical coach of the Indian men's hockey team till the Tokyo Olympic Games.
  • Clark, who will join the national camp this month, had coached the Indian junior men's team in 2013-2014 when it won the Sultan of Johor Cup and also participated at the 2013 FIH Junior World Cup in New Delhi.
  • He was associated with the Canadian men's team as Assistant Coach from 2017-2020.
  • Clark in his 11-year long career, competed in 250 international matches, appearing in two World Cups (1994 - Sydney and 2002 - Kuala Lumpur) and two Olympic Games (1996 - Atlanta and 2004 - Athens).
