No Spectators at Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar

  • Spectators will not be allowed at hockey's Junior World Cup, scheduled to begin in Bhubaneswar on November 24, and the event will be a telecast-only affair. Hockey India and International Hockey Federation (FIH) have jointly decided to hold the quadrennial tournament behind closed doors.

Hyderabad Cricket Association Unveils World's biggest Cricket Bat

  • Former India captain and now Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Mohd Azharuddin has unveiled what is certified by the Guinness Book of World Records to be the biggest cricket bat, designed by Pernod Ricard India (P) Ltd, on Tank Bund. The bat measures 56.10 feet, weighs 9-tonnes and is made of poplar wood.

FIFA Ranking 2021: India Ranks 106th

  • India was ranked 106th in the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) Rankings 2021, the position of team India increased to one spot. After the victory in the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) Championship 2021 of team India led by Sunil Chhetri, it has secured the 106th position. Under the FIFA Rankings, Belgium is at 1st position. Brazil holds 2nd position, France holds 3rd position.

New IPL Teams: CVC Capital Wins Bid for Ahmedabad, RPSG Group Gets Lucknow

  • Business tycoon Sanjiv Goenka and international equity investment firm Irelia Company Pte Limited (CVC Capital) shelled out a combined Rs. 12,715 crore (approx $1.7 billion) to win the bids for two new IPL teams, a windfall that far exceeded BCCI's expectations.
  • The BCCI was hoping for a cumulative bid in the range of Rs. 10,000 crore but to their surprise, earned Rs. 7,090 crore from Goenka's RPSG Group for the Lucknow franchise, while CVC capital forked out Rs. 5,625 crore for the Ahmedabad team. The two new sides will take part in the 2022 IPL. The mega auction for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, IPL 2022, will be held later this year (2021) in December.

Denmark open: PV Sindhu in Quarters

  • India's double Olympics medallist PV Sindhu reached the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open Super 1000 badminton tournament after three hard-fought win over Busanan Ongbamrungphan from Thailand.
  • This is Sindhu's first tournament since winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in August. One of India's greatest Olympians, Sindhu had taken a break to rejuvenate herself before making a comeback in this tournament.

2021 BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament

  • The 2021 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament, also known as the 2021 Indian Wells Masters, was held from October 04 to 18, 2021 at Indian Wells, California, US. This marks the 47th edition of the men's BNP Paribas Open (ATP Masters) and the 32nd Edition of the women's BNP Paribas Open (WTA Masters).
  • Cameron Norrie won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 by winning the Men's singles title at the 2021 BNP Paribas Open.
  • Paula Badosa defeats Victoria Azarenka to win the women's singles title.
  • Elise Mertens and Su Wei Hsieh won the women's doubles title.
  • John Peers and Filip Polasek won the men's doubles title.
  • The BNP Paribas Open is the largest combined ATP Tour Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tennis event.
  • It is annually held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California, USA.

Beijing Lights Olympic Flame

  • China lit its Olympic flame in Beijing after the ceremonial torch arrived from Athens, ahead of the Chinese capital's hosting of the 2022 Winter Games in February.
  • The Winter Games will be held from February 4 to February 20, when Beijing will become the first city to host both the summer and winter Olympics, amid a COVID-19 pandemic that means overseas spectators will be excluded.
  • At a welcome ceremony held near the National Stadium, shaped like a bird's nest and built for the 2008 Summer Games, Beijing Communist Party chief Cai Qi lit a cauldron to symbolise the arrival of the Olympic flame in China.

James Pattinson Retires from International Cricket

  • Australian fast bowler James Pattinson, once one of the most feared bowlers in the cricket world, has retired from international cricket.
  • The right-armer played 21 Test Matches, 15 One-Day Internationals and 4 T20 Internationals for Australia. He has played 76 first-class games for Victoria. He took 81 wickets at 26.33 in his Test career and has 302 wickets at 22.52 in first-class cricket.
