I-STEM Initiative Launched Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology (WEST)

  • Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology (WEST) is a new I-STEM (Indian Science Technology and Engineering Facility Map) Initiative. The WEST initiative was launched by Dr. Pravinder Maini, Scientific Secretary, Office of Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India. The WEST program aims to empower women to contribute to the science, technology, and innovation system. I-STEM is a national web portal that is used to share research equipment/facilities and is the umbrella under which many programs for promoting collaborations in R&D, and technological innovation among and between academia and industry.

India & UK Conduct Counter Ransomware Exercise

  • India's National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and the UK government in collaboration with BAE Systems successfully designed & conducted the Cyber Security Exercise for 26 countries as part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative- Resilience Working Group which is led by India under the leadership of National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC).
  • The exercise was facilitated by BAE Systems via the Immersive Labs platform, and the scenario was written specifically for the participants based on Threat Intelligence and operational experiences.
  • The theme of the exercise was based on Energy Sector in which the respective National Cyber Crisis Management Teams of the CRI Partner Nations dealt with a ransomware attack on multiple electricity distribution companies.

NASA's Experiment MOXIE Successfully Creates Oxygen on Mars

  • NASA's Experiment MOXIE: An gadget the size of a lunchbox (MOXIE by NASA) is demonstrating its ability to consistently carry out the work of a tiny tree on the red and dusty surface of Mars, some 100 million miles from Earth. TCS to Redesign Nokia's Human Capital Management System in 130 Countries

  • Telecom gear maker Nokia selected Tata Consultancy Services for redesigning its employee management system across 130 countries where it operates.
  • Under the agreement, TCS would redesign Nokia's human capital management processes and deploy a new cloud-based platform to drive simplification for a better employee experience.
  • In 2021, Nokia had launched its 'One Nokia Digital' strategy to support the company's competitiveness by digitalising its operations.
  • Nokia is now replacing its on-premise HR systems with a new cloud-based Human Capital Management platform (HCM) to standardise HR processes on a common data platform. This will enable Nokia to provide a consistent employee experience across teams and more easily manage and scale HR services globally.

ISRO Demonstrates New Tech that Can be Used for Mars, Venus Missions

  • ISRO successfully demonstrated a new technology with Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (IAD) that it said is a game-changer with multiple applications for future missions including to Mars and Venus.
  • An IAD, designed and developed by ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), was successfully test flown in a 'Rohini' sounding rocket from Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS).
  • This is the first time that an IAD is designed specifically for spent stage recovery. All the objectives of the mission were successfully demonstrated.
  • "The IAD has huge potential in variety of space applications like recovery of spent stages of rocket, for landing payloads on to Mars or Venus and in making space habitat for human space flight missions.
