SPPU to Introduce two Subjects on "Constitution of India" from Next Academic Year

  • The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will be introducing two subjects on the "Constitution of India," as a credit course in the second year for all undergraduate students of Arts, Science and Commerce streams. From the next academic year of 2021-22, these two subjects will be added to the syllabus.
  • The subjects will be compulsory for all the students at SPPU and affiliated colleges.
  • The decision was taken on the occasion of the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
  • The SPPU's department of anthropology has taken a lead in this project to design the syllabus of this credit course. It will be a two-credit course which will be taught in the second year of bachelor of Commerce, Arts and Science courses.

TNAU Bounces to 8th Spot in ICAR Ranking

  • Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) secured 8th rank in the ICAR (Indian Council for Agricultural Research) ranking for the year 2019 by bouncing back from 33rd position the previous year. The university attained 8th rank among the 67 agricultural institutes, 4th among the state agricultural universities and 1st among the southern agricultural universities.

Professional Certification Courses on Applied AI and Fullstack by IIT Mandi and WileyNXT

  • IIT Mandi and Technical Innovation Hub (TIH) tied up with WileyNXT, Wiley's innovative learning solution for emerging technologies, to launch two new executive courses Professional Certification in Applied AI, and Professional Certification in Fullstack Development.
  • Both these programmes are designed for early-career professionals keen on gaining premium credentials to build a career in AI and Analytics. On the successful completion of the course, the participants will get a joint certification from WileyNXT and IIT Mandi.
  • The 6 month online programmes will facilitate simulated learning through a unique learning methodology designed to enable learners to contextualize technology skills with deep business awareness as well as a problem solving mindset.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Wins National Inter-school Cryptic Crossword Contest

  • The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Hyderabad emerged as the national champion of a pan-India inter-school crossword competition, CCCC Cryptic Crossword Contest (CCCC 2020). The team of V Krishna Sai Gayatri and Nellore Dharshita from the city school won the grand finale of the eighth editions. Don Bosco Academy, Patna bagged the second prize this year followed by The Mother's International School, New Delhi which was at the third spot. The school won the tournament last year also.
  • The teams from over 1,500 schools participated in the two-day competition held by the Patna-based civil society in online mode due to pandemic. The grand finale was held through Zoom meeting with eight qualified teams.
  • The Limca Book of Records has acknowledged the event as the biggest of-its-kind in the country.

UGC Grants Six Months Extension to MPhil, PhD Students for Thesis Submission

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted a six month extension for submission of thesis to MPhil and Phd students in wake of prolonged closure of universities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier, the students were granted extension till December 31. However, the same has been extended till June 30 now but the tenure of fellowship for PhD and MPhil will remain the same--5 years.

IIIT-Delhi to Launch Centre of Excellence on Light Fidelity (LiFi)

  • The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi will soon start a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Light Fidelity (LiFi). The CoE will not only design relevant courses on LiFi, but will also facilitate capacity building by supporting research collaborations and exchange of experts between India and the EU. TSDSI and ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) are anchoring the activities under this project from India and the EU respectively.
  • LiFi is communication technology in which light is used to transmit data. The aims of CoE includes developing technology solutions and products to enhance the last mile connectivity using Visible Light Communication (VLC), connect entrepreneurs in India with academic researchers as well as to standardisation bodies, manpower training (academic faculty as well as students and engineers), and development of training and classroom courses on VLC, the IIIT-Delhi informed.
  • The CoE will also work on the standardisation of these technologies, in the context of 5G and beyond, through TSDSI and lead the way for international standardization of 5G VLC based solutions through 3GPP.

Yoga to be Introduced as a Subject in Haryana

  • Haryana Home Minister and AYUSH Minister Anil Vij said that yoga will be introduced as an educational subject in Haryana. He also said that the number of yogashalas in the state would be increased to 2000 to promote yoga.
  • He said that the first Sunday of each month would be celebrated as Yoga Day and more yoga instructors would be hired as decided at a Haryana Yoga Council meeting.
