Karnataka to Set Up more Medical Colleges under PPP Model

As per State Health and Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar, Karnataka needs more medical colleges to meet the demand for doctors and the government is willing to establish more in Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of the new building of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, said that establishing a medical college requires Rs. 600-700 crore.
If it is built in the PPP model, it reduces the burden on state exchequer and also helps provide affordable medical education and treatment to the needy. This model is being adopted in Gujarat and the same will be implemented in Karnataka.

Ramesh Pokhriyal Lays Foundation Stone of 'TiHAN-IIT Hyderabad'

Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal virtually laid the foundation stone of 'TiHAN-IIT Hyderabad', India's first Testbed for Autonomous Navigation Systems (Terrestrial and Aerial).
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has sanctioned Rs. 135 crores to IIT Hyderabad under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) to set up a Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation and Data Acquisition Systems (UAVs, RoVs, etc.).
The Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation Systems for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Remotely Operated Vehicles at IIT Hyderabad, known as 'TiHAN Foundation' was incorporated as a Section-8 company by the institute in June 2020.
"TiHAN Foundation, established at IIT Hyderabad, is a multi-departmental initiative, including researchers from Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical and Aerospace, Civil, Mathematics, and Design at IIT Hyderabad with collaboration and support from reputed institutions and industry.

IIT Kharagpur to Train Indian Engineers and Scientists in High-Performance Computing and AI

IIT Kharagpur will be training Indian scientists and engineers in high-performance computing (HPC) and AI. The institute has received a project titled 'NSM Nodal Center for training in HPC and AI' from Department of Science and Technology, C-DAC under the National Super Computing Mission of Govt. of India.
The center will focus on manpower creation and upskilling of students, faculty, scientists, researchers, scientific users in large scale computing across different science domains with an aim to bridge the gap between application and development aspects in HPC.

Govt. Proposes to Set up University of Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences

The government has proposed to set up a first of its kind university covering the entire gamut of disability studies and rehabilitation sciences in an accessible environment.
In a public notice issued the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has invited comments from stakeholders on a draft bill to set up the university.
In this regard, the DEPwD said, a draft bill namely the University of Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences Bill, 2021 for establishing the proposed university has been prepared.
The DEPwD said that it intends to set up a University of Disability Studies and Rehabilitation Sciences, Kamrup district, Assam through a separate act of Parliament.

Odisha Government Launches 'Career Portal' for Secondary, Higher Secondary Students

The Odisha government in collaboration with UNICEF has launched a 'career portal' for secondary and higher secondary students. The portal will provide easy access to information on different careers and will give students an opportunity to interact with teachers.
Students will also be able to access career guidance services through a mobile-friendly app created specifically for the portal. The official portal which was launched can be accessed through the website http://www.odishacareerportal.com with the student login ID and password. The Odisha career guidance portal is available in Odia. It is a unique platform that aggregates information on careers, colleges, vocational institutes, entrance exams, and scholarships.
The portal includes information on more than 550 career paths and students will be able to access more than 2,62,000 colleges and vocational institutes with the information on 17,000 plus undergraduate, postgraduate colleges, and vocational institutes in the state and country.

Jammu Gets Its First Woman Bus Driver

Breaking the glass ceiling, Pooja Devi of Kathua district has become the first woman passenger bus driver in Jammu and Kashmir. Mother of three children, Pooja Devi ferried passengers on Jammu-Kathua route for the first time.
Pooja Devi learnt truck driving from her maternal uncle Rajinder Singh and later applied for a license for driving heavy vehicles.
Pooja also has the support of male bus drivers as well as the public who have appreciated her decision to take up driving as a profession.

IIT Kanpur Launches New diploma programme in Geodesy

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) launched of a new program- Diploma of IIT (D-IIT) in Geodesy, the science of measuring the Earth.
The D-IIT program, approved by the Board of Governors, IIT-K at its board meeting held on December 7, 2020, will be offered by the Department of Civil Engineering in three broad areas: Geodesy, Navigation & Mapping, and Remote Sensing & GIS.
The NCG is the first of its kind in the country to support education and research activities in the field of Geodesy.

NIT Srinagar and IIT Delhi Sign MoU to Collaborate on Academic Activities

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar and the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi to collaborate on different academic activities.
The scope of collaboration on academic and research activities in the MoU includes Academic and Research collaboration in the areas of mutual interest, exchange of students and faculty, exchange of academic information, scholarly information, materials and publications and admission of NIT Srinagar students for direct PhD entry at IIT Delhi.
For research collaboration, proposals for collaborative research work under this Memorandum will be submitted with the prior approval of the Head of each institution or his/her nominee."Each institution will nominate one of its members as its representative in allergic to the cooperative programme.
