Future Generali India Drives Literacy Programme for Underprivileged

Future Generali India Insurance Company Limited (FGII) has partnered with an NGO Room to Read to improve literacy level and inculcate reading habits among underprivileged children.
As a part of its responsibility towards community development, FGII will use its uniquely designed annual report to raise funds for the NGO-backed schools. So if anyone wants to contribute towards the initiative, it can be done by ordering books on Amazon and Flipkart.
The amount contributed shall directly go to Room to Read. In addition, Future Generali India Insurance vows to match the amount 'Rupee for a Rupee' thus doubling the impact of the initiative.

ISRO to Open Regional Academic Centre for Space at IIT BHU

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will establish a Regional Academic Centre for Space at IIT (BHU) to facilitate short and long term projects at the institute.
ISRO and the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and the move can help propel the culture of research and development among students, the statement said.
"Under this agreement, ISRO-IIT (BHU) will open the Regional Academic Center for Space (RAC-S) in the institute," it said. Short-term projects for B-Tech and M-Tech students from the institute and associate institutes will also be included in this sequence.
"Long term R&D projects leading to the PhD programme will also be offered. Capacity building programmes like conferences, exhibitions and short courses will be organised to strengthen the knowledge base in the field," the statement added. The MoU was signed by IIT (BHU) director Prof Pramod Kumar Jain on behalf of the institute and P. V. Venkatakrishnan, the director of Capacity Building Programme Office (CBPO), ISRO headquarter.

Diploma Programme in Geodesy

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has announced to launch a new programme- Diploma of IIT (D-IIT) in Geodesy, the science of measuring the Earth. The programme will be under the Department of Civil Engineering and divided into three broad areas: Geodesy, Navigation and Mapping, and Remote Sensing and GIS.
The science of Geodesy has applications in monitoring earthquake, volcanic, landslide, and weather hazard recognition and response; soil health, water resources, and drought surveillance; climate change including monitoring the polar ice cover; oil spill clean-ups; GPS timing and autonomous vehicle development.
The new D-IIT programme will be open to candidates from different backgrounds including Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics, Mining, Geoinformatics, Physics, Mathematics, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geography, etc., with requirements as for the MTech / MS(R) programme of Geoinformatics specialisation in Civil Engineering.

BCI Releases Dates for All India Bar Exams

The Bar Council of India, the apex lawyers' body and regulator of law education in the country, said that it will hold All India Bar Exam-XVI on March 21, 2021.
The online registration will start from December 26, 2020 and the last date for registration will be February 21, 2021.
The Admit Cards shall be released online on March 6, 2021.
The council, meanwhile, said that All India Bar Exam-XV, which has been postponed on number of occasions due to COVID-19 pandemic, will be held on January 24, 2021 which is the scheduled date.
The examination is to be held on about 140 centers in 50 cities of the country.

The Centre told the Supreme Court that it was discussing with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) the issue of granting another chance to civil services aspirants, especially those who exhausted their last attempt in October 2020 Prelims during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Four-year Bachelor's Programme in Talks again in DU

A committee appointed by Delhi University to look into the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) has come up with a four-year Bachelor's degree programme course structure, similar to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) which was implemented in 2014 and then scrapped.
Vivek Suneja, Chairman of DU's NEP Implementation Committee (NIC), sent an email to its members forwarding the proposed structure of the four-year programme, which includes exit options after the end of each year, and granting a degree only at the end of the fourth year.
Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF) said that DU was moving towards "hasty implementation" without consulting stakeholders and that exit options would "encourage and institutionalise the system of drop-outs, especially among students from socially and economically underprivileged sections, particularly women.

IIT-Madras Bags 'The Most Innovative Institute of the Year' Award

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Madras) has bagged the most innovative institute award of this year. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) conferred the 'The Most Innovative Institute of the Year' award to the institute for its innovations in the field of Healthcare, Technology, and other sectors.
The award was given for the innovations- VITALSENS platform for clinical-grade wearable health monitoring, which includes the 'Wireless Continuous Multi-parameter Patient Monitoring Device' and related smartphone apps, developed by Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam, Faculty Head, Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC). The other awards are for 'Arise,' India's first standing wheelchair by Prof. Sujatha Srinivasan, faculty head, TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development and Shakti, first indigenous microprocessor, developed by Prof. V. Kamakoti, Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Tripura Plans to Conduct Madhyamik, Higher Secondary Exams from May 10

According to Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Tripura is eyeing to conduct its Madhyamik and Higher Secondary school board examinations from May 10 depending on the prevailing COVID-19 situation. The minister said that regular classwork for class 10 and class 12 board examinations were started December 7 with a set of restrictions in line of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Health Ministry.
The minister informed that the board exams would be now conducted in CBSE style; minimum pass marks would be fixed at 33 for each subject.
Dual question papers would be set for the examinations next year based on the course curriculum and syllabus, which was earlier reduced by 30 per cent due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing affect on classes. Schools were now instructed to complete practical classes between March 15-30 while all classes would end by March 30.
