IIT-Guwahati Introduces Master's in Liberal Arts

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati launched a master's programme in liberal arts. The programme will be offered by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Guwahati from the academic year 2022-2023. The first batch of 30 students will be admitted from the upcoming July 2022 semester based on specific admission criteria to be announced soon.
  • The programme aims to offer cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary training to students and hone their ability to think critically and creatively about social, political, and aesthetic issues that concern the world today and would align with the NEP 2020.

Assam Governor Launches 'Bodoland Super 50 Mission' to Train Youth for Competitive Examinations

  • Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi launched the 'Bodoland Super 50 Mission', an initiative of BTR chief Pramod Boro to prepare Bodo youths for competitive examinations.
  • The project of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) administration aims at transforming the lives of engineering aspirants coming from economically weaker sections of five Bodo dominated districts of Assam.
  • The initiative is similar to some of the well-known examples of enhancing students' achievements such as Anand Kumar-Super30 in Bihar, Oil India Super 30, ONGC Super 30 and Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS).

IGNOU Launches Online Certificate Programmes in Spanish and French

  • IGNOU's School of Foreign Languages has launched Certificate Programmes in Spanish and French (Online). The Programmes were launched through a virtual ceremony by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nageshwar Rao.
  • Certificate in Spanish Language and Culture (CSLCOL) aims to help learners interested in learning Spanish language in a non-native context and who desire to receive culture information on the Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Certificate in French Language (CFLOL) aims to introduce the French language to beginners and gradually build up skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking, simultaneously developing intercultural competence.

IAS Officer Vineet Joshi is Chairman of CBSE

  • IAS Vineet Joshi was appointed as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). He replaced IAS Manoj Ahuja, who was appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Mr. Joshi, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, is an Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, under the Ministry of Education. He is also the Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA). In 2010 as well he got the responsibility of CBSE chairman.

IGNOU Launches Certificate Programme in Food and Nutrition

  • The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched a certificate programme in Food and Nutrition. This new programme was launched under IGNOU's School of Continuing Education, and interested candidates can visit the official IGNOU website — ignouiop.samarth.edu.in.
  • The Certificate in Foods and Nutrition is a post-literacy level awareness programme meant for people with basic reading and writing skills. It aims to acquaint the learner with the role of food in ensuring healthy living for the individual, family and community, by including features such as food selection and preparation, nutrition from infancy to old age, economics of food, kitchen gardening, food adulteration, consumer rights, safety and education, and more.

IIT-Bombay Professor Rangan Banerjee Takes Charge as IIT-Delhi Director

  • Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Forbes Marshall Chair Professor at Department of Energy Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay took charge as the new Director of IIT-Delhi. He succeeded Prof. Ramgopal Rao.
  • Prof. Banerjee, a Forbes Marshall Chair Professor in IIT Bombay, is a B Tech (Mechanical) from the same institute. Later, he obtained a PhD (Mechanical Engineering), also from IIT Bombay.
  • The outgoing director of IIT Delhi – Prof. Ramgopal Rao was serving on extension, with his five-year tenure having ended in April 2021. The Central government on January 12 had appointed new directors to the Indian Institutes of Technology in Delhi, Madras, Indore and Mandi.

Financial Times MBA Rankings 2022

  • The Indian School of Business (ISB Hyderabad) emerged as the top B-school in India, according to the Financial Times World MBA Ranking 2022. ISB Hyderabad was ranked 32, while the three IIMs featured in the top 70 best MBA colleges in the world.
  • IIM Bangalore secured 53rd position, while IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta were ranked 62 and 68 respectively. As per Financial Times World MBA rankings 2022, Wharton and Columbia came first and second, respectively, ahead of Harvard, Northwestern: Kellogg, Stanford, Chicago: Booth, Yale, MIT, NYU: Stern and Berkeley: Haas — which were all among 16 schools in the top tier of the 100 ranked institutions.
  • The ranking is based on surveys of the business schools and their alumni. The programmes are assessed according to the career progression of alumni, the school's idea generation and the diversity of students and faculty. This ranking features the world's best 100 full-time global B-schools.

IIT Madras Prof's Digital Book Published by UK's Institute of Physics

  • IIT Madras faculty Prof. K. Ramesh achieved a milestone as his digital book was published in the UK's Institute of Physics. Titled 'Developments in Photoelasticity A Renaissance,' the book is based on decades of active research by Prof. K. Ramesh and his students at IIT Madras.
  • This digital book brings out in one volume, the use of Photoelasticity to understand complex problems such as understanding biological systems through their locomotion, which can help develop flexible robots for disaster management, improve agricultural production by understanding the stresses developed in plant roots, and the role of needle shape in epidural injections, among other applications.

Jamia Millia Islamia AJK-MCRC Collaborates with German Deutsch-Indische Zusammenarbeit

  • Under its newly designed CBCS Course: Communication Strategies for Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation, AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) is taking the help of national & international experts to train its students on the significance of media interventions in creating awareness on Human-Wildlife conflict.'
  • Surendra Varma and Sanjay Ajnekar of Asia Nature Conservation Foundation (ANCF) will train students in using tools for awareness and community engagement on HWC mitigation.
  • The course is being conducted with the help of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Dr Mala Narang Reddy, a noted social anthropologist, will be teaching students through a workshop on Feb 19, 2022, how they may address people's perceptions and social dimensions of Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) and also facilitate gender-sensitive HWC conflict mitigation.

Australia Announces 'Maitri' Scholars Program to Support Indian Students in its Universities

  • Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne announced 'Maitri' Scholars Program under which it will provide over USD 11 million for four years to support Indian students to study in Australia's world-leading universities.
  • The Australian Foreign Minister also announced a series of new initiatives to boost the education and cultural ties between Australia and India.

J&K Govt. Asks Colleges to Get NAAC Accredition

  • The Jammu and Kashmir government asked all colleges in the union territory to get themselves evaluated and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) within the shortest possible time.
  • The instruction was issued by higher education department Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal at a meeting with principals of colleges in the Jammu division.
  • Kansal directed for an audit in all colleges to determine the quality of the academic input, and the need for course or options revision and modernisation of syllabus.
  • With the introduction of the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020, the focus has moved to quality education, flexibility in curriculum and globalisation of outlook.

Kerala Education Minister Releases Audiobooks for Classes 10 and 12

  • The Kerala education department released audiobooks for Classes 10 and 12 as a part of the First Bell digital classes being aired through KITE VICTERS channel. General Education Minister V. Sivankutty released the audiobooks for the revision portions for both Classes 10 and 12.
  • Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) CEO K. Anvar Sadath said that the audiobooks are designed in such a way that revision of all subjects of Class 10 can be completed within 10 hours.
  • They are now available on the First Bell portal.
  • The average duration of the audiobooks for Class 12 is 1.5 hours and will be available from February 21.

MP Govt . Set to Open 10 New Medical Colleges in the State

  • The Madhya Pradesh government is all set to open 10 new medical colleges in the state. These new medical colleges will open to ensure an adequate number of doctors are available in the state.
  • The medical colleges will be opened through public-private partnership (PPP) PPP mode.
  • As per report, the state will also be receiving the five imported genome sequencing machines from the Centre, while the Madhya Pradesh government will purchase four such machines on its own.
  • The state government will soon start 'Mareej Mitra Yojana' in the state, under which interested persons can work in hospitals as volunteers to serve the needy patients and help them in all possible manners.
