IIT-BHU and Japan's Niigata University to Conduct Joint Research, Student Exchange Programmes

The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi (IIT BHU) and Japan's Niigata University signed an agreement to promote exchange and cooperation in education, joint research, holding of lectures and symposiums and participation of students/faculty members.
This collaboration will encourage students to be selected and nominated by the home university. As per the agreement, both parties will have to ensure that an equal number of students are exchanged and participated.
Under this agreement, both the universities will establish procedures and selection of exchange students based on their academic achievements. In addition to this, the host university will have to waive examination fee, entrance fees, and tuition fees for exchange students.

IIIT-Delhi and University of South Carolina's Artificial Intelligence Institute Sign MoU

The Center for Artificial Intelligence (CAI), Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi), and Artificial Intelligence Institute, University of South Carolina (AIISC) signed an MoU to promote academic cooperation and research collaboration, with an international focus among students and faculty members, for the mutual benefit of both institutes.
This collaboration will facilitate the sharing of co-advised thesis or participating on the dissertation committee for students and PhD candidates, and the interchange of scholarly papers, research materials, and other information in both parties' areas of interest.
This MoU focuses on productivity and a desire to bridge the knowledge gap and promote innovation and will provide groundbreaking results that will benefit all the parties involved.

IGNOU Launches Master of Arts in Sustainability Science

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched Master of Arts in Sustainability Science (MASS). The programme is in line with the principles of National Education Policy 2020, and is on offer from January 2022 admission cycle in Online Distance Learning (ODL) mode at the School of Interdisciplinary and Trans-disciplinary Studies.
Sustainability Science is an emerging discipline across the world. It is well acknowledged as one of the tools to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and to promote sustainability in every sphere of life.
The programme has adopted an interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach to educate the learners in the areas of India's major ecosystems and challenges to sustainable development such as population, health, climate change, globalization and social ecology.

JNU Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar is UGC Chairman

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) vice-chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as chairman of higher education regulator University Grants Commission (UGC).
Kumar's name was shortlisted for the post along with that of Nitin R. Karmalkar, the vice-chancellor of the Pune University, and Avinash Chandra Pandey, director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre, a body under the UGC. The appointment comes amid changes in the higher education sector with the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
Kumar is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He was a professor at IIT Delhi before he was appointed as the vice-chancellor in 2016.

Global Center of Excellence in Affordable and Clean Energy Launched in IIT Dharwad

The Global Center of Excellence in Affordable and Clean Energy was launched at IIT Dharwad. The center will enhance the research in affordable and clean energy. The center will create, incubate technologies, physical infrastructure. Also, it will create clean energy solutions. The solutions will target on livelihoods of rural communities.
The center is to be supported by CSR funds. CSR is Corporate Social Responsibility. The CSR funds are to come from HHSIF. HHSIF is Honeywell Hometown Solutions India Foundation. HHSIF provides funds in five main areas such as family safety and security, science and math education, housing and shelter, sustainability and humanitarian relief.

With 19.6k Participants, ClassAct 2022 Sets New Quizzing Records

ClassAct 2022, the Republic Day quiz organised by Hindustan Times, entered the record books for the most participants in an online school quiz. The quiz, which tested the students' knowledge on a host of topics, ranging from science and pop culture to sport and general information, has been officially declared by the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records as the record holder for the "Maximum Participation in an Online School Quiz", after over 19,600 people took part in its first round.
The quiz saw students from 32 countries across five continents participate in its preliminary round, and concluded with a resounding success in the grand finale.
The participants were shortlisted from a preliminary round where over 19,625 students from across 32 countries took part. Over 50,000 students initially registered for the quiz.
Besides the record-breaking turnout, the quiz also saw more female participants than male. Close to 60% of registrations were from girl students.
The quiz concluded with the announcement of 80 champions: 40 overall winners and 40 winners from the "Junior Category" (classes 1 to 5).

British Council Announces STEM Scholarships for Women

British Council, the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations announced the second cohort of British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM.
Over 100 scholarships are available to women STEM scholars from Asia and the Americas, out of which 65 scholarships are reserved for women STEM scholars from India and other South Asian countries, awarded on merit basis with no country-specific cap.
Selected scholars will be able to obtain a master's degree or an Early Academic Fellowship at a UK university, and the scholarship will cover tuition fees, monthly stipend, travel costs, visa and health coverage fees, as well as funding for dependents if any scholar wishes to travel with their children.
As part of the programme, Indian women STEM scholars can apply for master's courses and Early Academic Fellowships across 13 UK universities in courses like Data Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Health systems, Information Technology, Renewable Energy and Energy Management, and Project Management.
