South Korea Breaks Record for World's Lowest Fertility Rate, Again

  • South Korea broken its own record for the world's lowest fertility rate, according to official figures released, as the country struggles to reverse its years-long trend of declining births.
  • The country's fertility rate, which indicates the average number of children a woman will have in her lifetime, sunk to 0.81 in 2021 -- 0.03% lower than the previous year.
  • South Korea's birth rate has been dropping since 2015, and in 2020 the country recorded more deaths than births for the first time.

Smart India Hackathon 2022 Organised by Ministry of Education

  • Smart India Hackathon(SIH) is Government of India's initiative headed by Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell to provide students a platform to solve the pressing problems of the government, ministries, departments, industries, and other organizations. KL Deemed-to-be University hosted the finale of the 2-day grand event which was inaugurated by Mr. Ajay Reddy, Chairman, APSSDC (AP State Skill Development Corporation), Mrs. Lavanya, Joint Director AP Innovation Society and Mr. Manoj Dharap, Nodal Center Head (MIC & AICTE Representative).
  • The scope of the Smart India hackathon has been widening with every passing since its launch in 2017. The increased enthusiasm among participating students and problem statement provider organizations could be seen in their growing participation over the years.

CM Inaugurates Delhi's First School to Prepare Students for Armed Forces

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the city's first school which would prepare students for the armed forces.
  • The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School at Jharoda Kalan in Najafgarh currently has 175 students.
  • The state-of-the-art school has an exclusive services preparatory wing to inculcate officer-like qualities (OLQs) in students through individual and group tasks, mock interviews, psychometric tests and personality development workshops.
  • It has a free hostel facility with cadet mess for boys and girls and is part of the Delhi government's School of Specialised Excellence and affiliated to the Delhi Board of School Education.

UGC Declares 21 Universities as 'Fake'

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) declared 21 universities as "fake" and not empowered to confer any degree, majority of which are in Delhi followed by Uttar Pradesh.
  • Delhi has eight fake universities, Uttar Pradesh has seven such universities, Karntaka, Maharashtra, Puduchery, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Kerala also have fake universities on the list.

  • Union Minister Anurag Thakur has launched "Azadi Quest", a series of online educational games based on India's freedom struggle, developed in collaboration with Zynga India.
  • These games are an effort to tap into the huge market of online gamers and to educate them through games. Various arms of the government of India have collected information about unsung freedom fighters from the corners of the country.
  • "Azadi Quest" is an effort to make the learning of this knowledge engaging and interactive.

Amrita Hospital, Asia's biggest hospital in Faridabad, Haryana unveiled by PM Modi

  • A 2,600-bed Amrita hospital Faridabad, Asia's biggest hospital with state-of-the-art technology, including a centrally located, fully automated laboratory, was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • This Amrita hospital Faridabad will significantly improve the NCR region's healthcare infrastructure. A 14-floor tower housing the primary medical services would be part of the 36 lakh square foot built-up area of the Amrita hospital Faridabad complex.
  • There is also a helipad on the rooftop of Amrita hospital Faridabad complex.

UP government to build India's first education township

The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to build an education township in the state. As per the Yogi Adityanath government, the education township will be developed on the idea of 'Single Entry, Multiple Exit'. The move will provide high-quality education to the youth and equip them with a variety of professional skills in a single place. Besides, it will provide accommodation and many other facilities to both students and teachers.

Centre Issues Advisory To States On Tomato Flu

  • The Centre on Tuesday issued an advisory to states on Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD), commonly known as Tomato Flu. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Tomato Flu was first identified in the Kollam district of Kerala on May 6 and as of July 26, more than 82 children younger than 5 years with the infection have been reported by the local government hospitals. The other affected areas of Kerala are Anchal, Aryankavu, and Neduvathur.

Rajasthan: Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Advanced Technologies

  • With an aim to make tech graduates more employable Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi Center for Advanced Technologies (R-CAT) in Jaipur. The center will organize modern technologies related training programs of one week to six months duration for graduates from BE, B.Tech, BCA, MCA, MBA, and MSc (IT) in collaboration with tech giants of global scale and World class certificates will also be issued to successful candidates.
