Three States to Set up Bulk Drug Parks to Boost Pharma Production

  • The Department of Pharmaceuticals has given 'in-principle' approval to the proposals of the three states —Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh—under the Scheme for 'Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks', an initiative to support drugs manufacturing in the country.
  • The scheme, notified in 2020 has a financial outlay of Rs. 3,000 crore. It aims to provide financial assistance to three states for establishing Bulk Drug Parks and aims to bring down the cost of manufacturing bulk drugs by creating world-class common infrastructure facilities.
  • The financial assistance to the proposed Bulk Drug Park in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh would be 70% of the project cost of common infrastructure facilities. In case of Himachal Pradesh, being categorised as a 'hilly state', the financial assistance would be 90% of the project cost.

NSE Academy, HDFC AMC Launch Financial Literacy Programme for College Students

  • NSE Academy Limited (NAL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and HDFC Asset Management Company Limited (HDFC AMC) collaborated and launched a programme named 'Invest-Verse' for college students.
  • The course will also be made available on HDFC Mutual Fund's MFBytes application. The programmes will be delivered through online and application-based training and will be co-certified by both institutions.
  • The aim of the programme is to reach the next wave of first-time investors by educating and empowering them to be earners while promoting financial literacy. The programme attendees will be co-certified by both institutions.

Indira Gandhi Centre to Teach Ramayana, Mahabharata, Vedas from this Year

  • The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) started three new post-graduate courses that focus on Ramayana, Mahabharata, Vedas and puranas. The organisation, which functions under the Ministry of Culture, is offering 11 courses, out of which four new courses – Hindu Studies, Bharatiya Jnana Parampara, Indian Literature and Museology – have been launched this year.
  • The session for this year starts on September 1 and concludes in May, 2023.
  • Few universities in the country offer any course on Hindu Studies, besides the Banaras Hindu University and IIT-Kharagpur.

UGC Chairperson Jagadesh Kumar Given Additional Charge of AICTE

  • University Grants Commission (UGC) chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar was given additional change as the head of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
  • Jagadesh Kumar replaced Anil D. Saharabudhe.
  • The appointment of the regular chairman, AICTE, is under process.
  • Kumar was serving as the Vice Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University before taking charge as the UGC chairperson in February this year. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He is a professor of electrical engineering at IIT Delhi and still takes classes at the institute.

Delhi CM Kejriwal Launches Virtual School for Students across the Country

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a virtual school and said that students from across the country would be eligible for admission.
  • The school is for classes 9-12.
  • The admission to the schooling platform would be open for students across India and they would also be prepared by experts for entrance exams like NEET, CUET and JEE along with skill-based training.
  • The Chief Minister said that the first virtual school in the country would prove to be a milestone in the education sector.

NSDC Partners with Upskilling Platform Mythiksha to help Upskill People in Rural India

  • National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a strategic implementation and knowledge partner in the Skill India Mission, and upskilling platform Mythiksha officially joined hands to help Mythiksha expand its reach in rural cities and promote employment opportunities for rural youth.
  • With NSDC, Mythiksha expects to reach over 1 lakh students over the next 12 months. At present, Mythiksha follows a 'Learn Now Pay Later' model, where candidates enroll with an admission fee and clear the course fee in easy installments after they receive a job.

Govt. Proposes a New Regulator for 'Uniformity' in All Board Exams

  • The Union government plans to draw up a "benchmark framework" to assess students at the secondary and higher secondary level to bring about "uniformity" across state and central boards which currently follow different standards of evaluation, leading to wide disparities in scores.
  • Over the last few months, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has held a series of meetings with the representatives of state boards and State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) to arrive at a common understanding to implement the plan, as part of which a new assessment regulator is being set up.
  • The proposed regulator, PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), which will act as a constituent unit of the NCERT, will also be tasked with holding periodic learning outcome tests like the National Achievement Survey (NAS) and State Achievement Surveys.

University of Auckland Announces Scholarships Worth NZ$1.5 Million for Indian Students

  • The Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland is launching an extensive range of scholarship package for Indian students totalling almost NZ$1.5 million. Indian students who want to apply for any of the scholarships can submit their application at the official university website — auckland.ac.nz.
  • These scholarships are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and interested candidates can apply for these from October 10 till November 21, and then from March 9, 2023 till April 20, 2023. Scholarship applications will usually open around six weeks before the closing date.
