Jamia Millia Islamia Launches Masters in Virology Programme

  • Multidisciplinary Centre for Advanced Research and Studies (MCARS), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) started a two-year degree course of masters in virology.
  • The course would provide students with theoretical knowledge in various domains of viruses with specific focus on pathogenic viruses, their diagnostic methods, antiviral drug designing, molecular pathways of viruses and recently developed therapies such as immunotherapies and vaccines.
  • During the two-year course duration, students will undergo practical and hand-on-training. Students will learn how to detect the viruses using current state-of-the art technologies like RT-qPCR, genome sequencing and CRISPR-Cas Diagnostic methods besides other assays.

UGC Launches Syllabus of Cyber Security Courses at UG, PG Levels

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) launched the syllabus of cyber security courses at the Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) levels. The syllabus aims at developing an understanding of cyber security issues even for students from non-technical streams.
  • Launching the syllabus, Universities Grants Commission (UGC) Chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar said that cyber security as a subject needs to be incorporated at graduation and postgraduation level in all streams. The syllabus of these courses aims to create aware, responsive, and responsible digital citizens, thereby contributing effectively to an overall healthy cyber security posture and ecosystem.

First Green Tech Based Incubation Centre of India to Come up at NIT Srinagar

  • India's first technology business incubation centre based on green technology named "Greenovator Incubation Foundation" is coming up at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
  • Technology Business Incubation or Inclusive TBI (i-TBI) is a three-year initiative supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for educational institutions, idea-generators, innovators and entrepreneurs to support the innovative ideas, start-up initiatives and promote self-employment and job creation through incubation.
  • The Department of science and technology is responsible for providing all the necessary funds for setting up the centre. The co-working space would be provided to start-ups for incubation facility, prototyping laboratory, meeting rooms, recreational facilities etc. Apart from office space, financial assistance as seed money would be given on a case-to-case basis with equity, as per the DST guidelines.

PM Modi Inaugurates AIIMS Bilaspur

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fully functional All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur. Modi's vision and commitment to strengthening health services across the country is being showcased again with the inauguration of AIIMS.
  • The AIIMS -- whose foundational stone was also laid by the prime minister in October 2017 -- has been established under the Central sector scheme Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
  • AIIMS Bilaspur, constructed at a cost of more than Rs. 1,470 crore, is a state-of-the-art hospital with 18 specialty and 17 super specialty departments, 18 modular operation theatres and 750 beds with 64 ICU beds.
  • The Prime Minister was accompanied by Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur, Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Minister, Anurag Singh Thakur and Member of Parliament and BJP National President, Jagat Prakash Nadda.

Pradhan Inaugurates India's Second National Model Vedic School in Puri

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the country's second Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya (RAVV) in Puri, with the objective of spreading knowledge of the Vedas among people.
  • The RAVV or the National Model Vedic School has come up on the campus of the Central Sanskrit University here. Maharishi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratishthan is the first such school in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain.
  • Besides courses on the four Vedas -- Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda and Atharvaveda – students will get a chance to opt for science, English, mathematics, Vedic mathematics, social science, computer science and agriculture as part of the curriculum.

Professor Rajat Moona Takes Charge as Director of IIT Gandhinagar

  • Professor Rajat Moona took charge as the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN). Professor Amit Prashant, the Officiating Director of the Institute, handed over the responsibility to Professor Moona.
  • Professor Moona holds a BTech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur (1981-1985) and a PhD in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore (1985-1989). His research area spans over embedded computing, computer security, VLSI design and Operating Systems.
  • Before joining IITGN, Professor Moona served as Director of IIT Bhilai and Director General of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). He is also a faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur since 1991.

IIT Jodhpur's School of Liberal Arts Launches 'Centre of Excellence on Arts and Digital Immersion'

  • The School of Liberal Arts at Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur has launched the Centre of Excellence on Arts and Digital Immersion, a first-of-its-kind initiative, which was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan awardee classical vocalist, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, and eminent scientist Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee, Professor Ashutosh Sharma, Professor Santanu Chaudhury, Director and, Professor S.R. Vadera, Deputy Director, IIT Jodhpur also graced the event with their presence.
  • The Centre of Excellence derives its inspiration from the National Education Policy (2020) which encourages an expanded vision of Liberal Arts without any compartmentalisation between the arts, sciences and technology.
