Whitley Awards are called "Green Oscar". In 2021, the Whitley Award was won by Nuklu Phom of Nagaland. He is the only Indian to receive the award.
Whitley Awards are presented annually by the Whitley Fund for Nature. It is presented to recognise grass root level conservation leaders.
It involves process of reference, application and interview.
The Whitley Fund for Nature was established by Edward Whitley in 1994. It has so far given 16 million pounds to support the work of two hundred environmental heroes.
Nuklu Phom is creating "Biodiversity Peace Corridors". The main objective of the extend the "Yaongyimchen Community Biodiversity Area".
Apart from conservation of wildlife and environmental protection he also extends his works to health, education and micro finance.
Lemasachenlok Society was founded by him. It has worked towards sensitising the locals about the Amur Falcons. It has set up three reserves that helped to increase the number of roosting Falcons.
Nuklu Phom is populary known as the "Amur Falcon Man of Nagaland".

IREDA Wins "Green Urja Award"
Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) was conferred with the "Green Urja Award" for being the Leading Public Institution in the Financing Institution for Renewable Energy this year by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC). IREDA got the award for the pivotal and developmental role it plays in Green Energy Financing.
The award was received by Shri Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), IREDA from Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, International Solar Alliance in presence of Shri Anil Razdan, Chairman, ICC National Expert Committee on Energy in a virtual ceremony.
Despite the pandemic time, IREDA ended the year 2020-21 on a strong note and disbursed the second-highest (from the date of inception) amount of loan amounting to Rs. 8827 crore, which indicates that IREDA has the ability to translate this problem into an opportunity.

Nutrition Expert of Indian Descent Wins World Food Prize
Dr. Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted, a global nutrition expert of Indian descent, won the prestigious 2021 World Food Prize for her groundbreaking research in developing holistic, nutrition-sensitive approaches to aquaculture and food systems.
World Food Prize Foundation President Barbara Stinson announced the award, which is also referred to as the Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture.
The award also carries a cash prize of USD 250,000.
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, US Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack and UN Nutrition Chair Naoko Yamamoto delivered individual remarks at the announcement.
Thilsted's trailblazing research on small native fish species in Bangladesh led to the development of nutrition-sensitive approaches to aquatic food systems at all levels, from the farm to food processing to final consumers, resulting in improved diets for millions of the most vulnerable people in Asia and Africa, the World Food Prize said on its website.

Anupam Kher Wins Best Actor Award at New York City International Film Festival
Actor Anupam Kher won the Best Actor award at the New York City International Film Festival for the short film titled Happy Birthday. The film also bagged the Best Short Film award at the film festival.
Happy Birthday, which was one of the much-anticipated short films of the year, starring actor Anupam and Aahana Kumra was directed by Prasad Kadam and produced by FNP Media.

Justice Gita Mittal Conferred Arline Pacht Global Vision Award
In a first for an Indian jurist, Justice Gita Mittal, former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, has been conferred with the prestigious Arline Pacht Global Vision Award for 2021 by the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ).
The Award was presented at IAWJ's Biennial Conference during the virtual opening ceremony. She shared the honour with Justice Margarita Luna Ramos of Mexico.
International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) instituted this award in 2016. Justice Mittal would be the first Indian judge to receive the award. Award is presented to a sitting/retired woman judge to recognize her contribution to IAWJ.
At present, Justice Mittal is the Chairperson of Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), an independent, self-regulatory body for general entertainment channels set up by the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF). She is the first woman to hold this position.
