The artist Ayana Ross has won the 2021 Bennett Prize, which comes with $50,000 and recognises the achievements of women working in figurative painting. The funds will be used toward a traveling solo show of Ross's work, which often examines Black life in the American South. An exhibition at the Muskegon Museum of Art in Michigan, on view through September 5, features work by Ross, the nine other finalists for this year's award, and Aneka Ingold, the first winner of the Bennett Prize in 2019.

Thamizh's Debut Film 'Seththumaan' Wins Grand Jury Award
Tamil filmmaker Thamizh's debut film Seththumaan and Karishma Dube's short Bittu have bagged top prizes at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA).
The 19th edition of the festival concluded its eight-day run, during which it showcased 40 films in 17 languages, including movies by 16 women directors.
A jury comprising of Milan Chakraborty, Nathan Fischer and Jenn Wilson declared Thamizh's 'Seththumaan' as the winner of Grand Jury Award for Best Feature.
Filmmaker Sajin Baabu's Malayalam film 'Biriyaani' was recognised with the Honorable Mention, while Ajitpal Singh's 'Fire in the Mountains' took home the Audience Award for Best Feature.
Karishma Dube's 'Bittu', which was in the race for a nomination at the 2021 Oscars, bagged the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short.

C.N.R. Rao Receives 2020 International ENI Award
Noted Indian scientist and Bharat Ratna Professor, C.N.R. Rao has been felicitated with the International Eni Award 2020 (also called the Energy Frontier award). The International Eni Award is considered to be the Nobel Prize in Energy Research. He has been conferred the prize for his work on metal oxides, carbon nanotubes and other materials and two-dimensional systems.
Professor Rao will be presented the Eni Awards 2020 on 14 October 2021, during an official ceremony held at the Quirinal Palace in Rome. The Eni Award is awarded annually by the Italian oil and gas company Eni to encourage better use of energy sources and increased environmental research.

Amartya Sen Gets Spain's Top Award
Indian economist and Nobel Laureate Amartya Kumar Sen has been conferred with Spain's top Princess of Asturias Award in the social sciences category.
Sen was selected out of 41 candidates from 20 nationalities. "His research on famines and his theory of human development, welfare economics and the underlying mechanisms of poverty have contributed to the fight against injustice, inequality, disease and ignorance," it said. The award comprises a Joan Miro sculpture representing and symbolising the award, a diploma, an insignia and a cash prize of 50,000 Euros. The award was announced via video-conference.

Kerala Farmer Bags India Biodiversity Award 2021
Shaji .N.M. fondly called as 'Tuber Man' of Kerala has been awarded the India Biodiversity Award 2021 in the individual category of 'Conservation of domesticated species'.
Mr. Shaji, who conserves a wide array of around 200 tuber crops including greater yam, lesser yam, elephant foot yam, arrow root, colocasia, sweet potato, cassava and Chinese potato in his farm has received State awards seven times for his efforts. He has also received the Plant Genome Savior Reward 2015, instituted by PPV&FR Authority, New Delhi.
He makes efforts to travel even to interior forests to get new types of tubers, which are known and used only by the tribal community, and even such special tubers are conserved in his field including six wild species. His farm has 40-odd varieties of turmeric and 30 varieties of ginger. He is also conserving many paddy varieties, which are on the verge of extinction.
Naturalist Jane Goodall Wins 2021 Templeton Prize for Life's Work
The naturalist Jane Goodall has been announced as the 2021 winner of the Templeton Prize in recognition of her life's work on animal intelligence and humanity.
Goodall built her global reputation on her groundbreaking studies of chimpanzees in Tanzania in the 1960s. Her foundation, the Jane Goodall Institute, works with local communities as well as providing safe habitats for chimpanzees and gorillas, and its educational branch, Roots and Shoots, operates in 67 countries.
