Environmental Organisation 'Familial Forestry' Wins Prestigious UN Award
The 2021 Land for Life Award has been won by Familial Forestry of Rajasthan, a unique concept that relates a tree with a family, making it a green "family member." The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) organises the Land for Life Award every two years to recognize excellence and innovation in efforts towards land in balance.
The theme for the 2021 Award is "Healthy Land, Healthy Lives". The Land for Life Award was launched at the UNCCD COP (Conference of Parties) 10 in 2011 and is considered as the world's highest reward regarding land conservation and restoration.
Familial Forestry is an environment conservation concept by climate-activist Shyam Sunder Jyani, an Associate Professor for Sociology in Rajasthan, who has been campaigning for Familial Forestry for over 15 years.

Student Film of AJKMCRC Jamia Millia Islamia Wins LIAFF
An AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJKMCRC), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) student film Dhaai Peher (Two and a Half Moments) directed by M.A. Mass Communication students Amal Devasiya, Danish Qazi, Jamshad Ali, Kashif Shakeel and Pankaj Rawat won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the L'Age d'Or International Arthouse Film Festival (LIAFF) in the student category.
The film is about a set of events that unravel in the Punjab of the 1990s. The film was made during the Covid-19 pandemic at a time when access to outdoor locations was limited and Punjab had to be created in and around Delhi.
The purpose of LIAFF is to develop a film culture that inspires and brings together cross-cultural innovations that enrich people's lives with entertainment and services that inform, educate and entertain.

IIT Roorkee Wins NSG Award
A professor from IIT Roorkee, Prof. Shailesh Ganpule, has received the 'NSG Counter-IED & Counter-Terrorism Innovator Award 2021' for his design of a blast-resistant helmet. The award was conferred to the professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department (MIED) in a ceremony held at NSG Campus, Manesar, Haryana.
Blast-induced traumatic brain injury has been identified as a signature wound in recent asymmetric conflicts. Military helmets are classically designed for protection against ballistic impact, with little to no attention for protection against blast.
The 'Blast-Resistant Helmet' designed by Prof. Shailesh Ganpule is an advanced version of conventional helmets to protect military personnel from IED-induced blast waves with a technology readiness of 4.

Pulitzer Prize 2021
Megha Rajagopalan, an Indian-origin journalist, along with two contributors has won the Pulitzer Prize for innovative investigative reports that exposed a vast infrastructure of prisons and mass internment camps secretly built by China for detaining hundreds of thousands of Muslims in its restive Xinjiang region.
'Rajagopalan's Xinjiang series won the Pulitzer Prize in the International Reporting category.
Tendulkar 'Delighted' to See Vinoo Mankad Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame
Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar expressed "delight" to see former India cricketer Vinoo Mankad being inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame.
The ICC announced a special edition intake of 10 cricket icons into the ICC Hall of Fame to celebrate the prestigious history of Test cricket, and to coincide with the first-ever ICC World Test Championship final.
The 10 legends of the game to be inducted have all made a significant contribution to the history of Test cricket, and join an illustrious list of ICC Hall of Famers, taking the total number to 103 as a result of this intake.
