Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award Renamed Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award will henceforth be called Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. This decision was taken "respecting the sentiments of citizens across the country".
  • Major Dhyan Chand was among India's foremost sportspersons who brought honour and pride for India. It is fitting that our nation's highest sporting honour will be named after him.

West Bengal Receives Four SKOCH Awards

  • The government of West Bengal has received four SKOCH awards for its schemes under the Ease of Doing Business initiative. The State scheme 'Silpasathi'-the online single window portal won the platinum award while the Auto-Renewal of Certificate of Enlistment through the online system for urban areas has received the gold award.
  • Online issuance of trade licences in rural areas and the E-Nathikaran: the online system for registration, preparation and submission of deeds have won two silver awards. The state government will ensure that the ease of doing business in West Bengal continues to be one of the foremost in the country.

Chhattisgarh Bags Top Awards for Minor Forest Produce, Van Dhan Yojna

  • Chhattisgarh has been conferred top awards for excellent performance in procurement, processing and marketing of minor forest produce and for implementation of Van Dhan Yojana.
  • Union Tribal Affairs Minister, Arjun Munda presented the awards to Chhattisgarh virtually.
  • Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has congratulated Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, and all the officials, employees of Forest Department, Chhattisgarh State Forest Forest Produce Association, forest committees and the self-help groups engaged in collection and processing of forest produce, for this mega achievement.

India-assisted Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan Gets Brunel Medal

  • Bhutan's India-assisted Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project was conferred with the Brunel Medal awarded by the London-based Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
  • The award was given as a mark of excellence in civil engineering within the industry and was handed over by the Indian envoy to Bhutan Ruchira Kamboj to the Chairman of Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority, Lyonpo Loknath Sharma.
  • One of the reasons the Mangdechhu project was awarded was because of its social and environmental credentials.

Jagdish Bhagwati, C. Rangarajan Conferred with Inaugural Prof CR Rao Centenary Gold Medal

  • Renowned economist Jagdish Bhagwati and C. Rangarajan have been conferred with the inaugural Prof CR Rao Centenary Gold Medal (CGM). Bhagwati is professor of economics, law and international relations at Columbia University and director of the Raj Center on Indian Economic Policies while C. Rangarajan is the former chairman of the Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister and former governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
  • The Indian Econometric Society (TIES) Trust instituted the award to commemorate the contributions of its professor CR Rao to the quantitative economic theory and practice and also the TIES over the last several decades.
  • The award will be presented once in two years to an Indian or Indian-origin scholar for her or his lifetime contributions to the fields of theoretical and applied aspects of quantitative economics, and official statistics.
