Shaunak Sen's Documentary 'All That Breathes' Wins L'�'il D'or Award at Cannes

  • Filmmaker Shaunak Sen's documentary All That Breathes, India's only entry at Cannes Film Festival 2022, has won the 2022 L'Oeil d'Or, the festival's top prize for documentaries. All That Breathes follows the lives of siblings Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad who, working out of their derelict basement in Delhi's Wazirabad, rescue and treat injured birds, especially the black kites. It recently had its premiere at Cannes in the Special Screening segment.
  • The 90-minute long film was chosen the winner by the jury, comprising Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland, Ukrainian writer-director Iryna Tsilyk, French actor Pierre Deladonchamps, journalist Alex Vicente, and Moroccan writer-filmmaker Hicham Falah. The L'Oeil d'Or documentary award, also known as The Golden Eye award, was created in 2015 by the French-speaking authors' society LaScam in collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival.

A. Gopalakrishnan Wins VASVIK industrial Research Award 2020

  • A. Gopalakrishnan, Director of the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute won the VASVIK (Vividhlaxi Audyogik Samshodhan Vikas Kendra) Industrial Research Award for the year 2020 in the category of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 1.51 lakh and citation, is in recognition of his significant contribution towards the research works related to fish genetics. The research works related to fish genetics which is relevant for conserving many commercially important and endangered species.
  • The VASVIK research award is presented to scientists and researchers who have excelled in various fields including agricultural sciences. His research works include the Genetic Stock Identification (GSI), species inventory, taxonomy, breeding and seed production of threatened and commercially important species for mariculture which has helped in improving scientific knowledge on Indian fishery and the conservative measures.

Coveted Award for Former PM Manmohan Singh

  • Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will be honoured with prestigious Anuvrat Puraskar. Sanchay Jain, president, Anuvrat Vishwa Bharati Society, said this was the top award of the Anuvrat movement.
  • The award will be given to Dr. Manmohan Singh soon for simplicity and purity in personal life and for his constructive contribution in upgrade of moral and human values. As many as 26 distinguished persons, including former PM Gulzarilal Nanda, Dr Atmaram, Jainendra Kumar, Shivaji Bhave, L.K. Advani, Shivraj Patil, T.N. Seshan and Prakash Amte, were honoured with the Anuvrat Puraskar.
  • Acharya Tulsi had founded the Anuvrat Andolan after Independence and its aim was to motivate citizens to experience real freedom by adopting restraint, purity and non-violence in their lives.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui Honoured with Excellence in Cinema Award at the French Riviera Film Festival

  • After making a splash on the Cannes red carpet, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was honoured with the Excellence in Cinema award at the French Riviera Film Festival. Nawazuddin Siddiqui was presented the award at the French Riviera Film Festival by Emmy-winning star Vincent De Paul.
  • Nawazuddin Siddiqui made headlines earlier at the Cannes Film Festival, where he was a part of the Indian contingent. He walked the red carpet alongside the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur, musician Ricky Kej, CBFC Chief Prasoon Joshi and more. He was also snapped alongside R Madhavan, Kamal Haasan and AR Rahman.

Indian Novel 'Tomb of Sand' Wins International Booker Prize

  • Indian writer Geetanjali Shree and American translator Daisy Rockwell won the International Booker Prize for "Tomb of Sand," a vibrant novel with a boundary-crossing 80-year-old heroine. Originally written in Hindi, it's the first book in any Indian language to win the high-profile award, which recognizes fiction from around the world that has been translated into English. The 50,000-pound ($63,000) prize money will be split between New Delhi-based Shree and Rockwell, who lives in Vermont.
  • The book tells the story of an octogenarian widow who dares to cast off convention and confront the ghosts of her experiences during the subcontinent's tumultuous 1947 partition into India and Pakistan.

Kishore Jayaraman Receives Honorary British Award by Her Majesty The Queen

  • Kishore Jayaraman, President, India and South Asia for Rolls-Royce, received an honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty The Queen. He received the award for services to international trade and investment, with a key focus on promotion of India-U.K. trade. Mr. Jayaraman is a board member of the U.K.-India Business Council, which supports U.K. businesses set-up in India. He has also been instrumental in promoting bilateral ties by setting up a strategic ecosystem for boosting manufacturing in India enabled by U.K.'s technology.
  • Under his leadership, the company set up the 'Engineering Centre' in Bengaluru in 2015, 'Digital Centre of Excellence' with over 60 digital technologists in 2017, and its first 'Start-up Accelerator Programme' in India in 2019.
