PGI's Resource Centre for Tobacco Control, Chandigarh Awarded by WHO

The World Health Organisation awarded the Resource Centre for Tobacco Control (e-RCTC) of the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh with the Regional Director Special Recognition Award. The Resource Centre for Tobacco Control provides information related to tobacco control in India, including circulars and orders, policies and legislations, multidisciplinary publications.
Besides being a resource hub, the centre achieved heights in capacity building by organising more than 50 workshops and webinars for around 3,500 program managers and academicians. The Resource Center for Tobacco Control, a joint initiative of the PGIMER and the UNION-SEA, was set up in 2018 by 25 organisations working over tobacco control in India with an aim to showcase tobacco control initiatives.

Rashtriya Puruskar Portal

Several Ministries or Departments or Agencies of Government of India instituted various civilian awards, for recognising people who have made exceptional contribution and excelled in their fields.
A common 'Rashtriya Puruskar Portal' was developed by Government, to invite nominations for various awards, in order to bring all the Awards of different Ministries or Departments or Agencies under one digital platform. This portal will help in ensuring transparency and public partnership (Jan Bhagidari).
The Rashtriya Puruskar Portal was created with the aim of facilitating citizens to nominate individuals or organisations for various Awards constituted by Government of India.

Second Edition of the DSDP Excellence Awards Held in New Delhi

The 2nd edition of the Awards for Excellence in District Skill Development Planning, DSDP, was held in New Delhi, with the top 30 districts in the area being recognised for their unique best practises in skill development. The top three districts in the competition were Rajkot in Gujarat, Cachar in Assam, and Satara in Maharashtra. District Collectors, District Magistrates, and other officials from 30 states attended the award ceremony to share their views and experiences, as well as to exhibit the skill development work that respective districts had done at the grassroots level.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan asked the District Collectors, District Magistrates and other officials to carry out demand-mapping of the skilled workforce and drive awareness about skill development initiatives at the local level.

Grammys Add Five New Categories, Including Songwriter of the Year

The Grammys adds a special song for social change award and five new categories including songwriter of the year, giving the Recording Academy an avenue to honour music's best composer. The academy announced that the new non-classical songwriter category will recognise one individual who was the "most prolific" non-performing and non-producing songwriter for a body of new work during an eligibility year. The category is taking a different approach than song of the year, which awards the songwriter or songwriters who wrote the lyrics or melodies to one song.
The new category is another huge step for songwriters. In 2022, a rule update allowed that any songwriter, producer, engineer or featured artist on an album nominated for album of the year could ultimately earn a nomination.

Indian American Harini Logan Wins 2022 Spelling Bee Champion

Indian American girl, Harini Logan from Texas won the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee. She has spelled 21 words correctly to win the prestigious 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee and defeated Vikram Raju in a marathon.
Prize money was USD 50,000 cash prize and Scripps Cup trophy on top of awards from Merriam-Webster and Encyclopedia Britannica. She is the fifth Scripps champion to be coached by Grace Walters.

Indian Railways Awarded by the UIC International Sustainable Railway Awards (ISRA)

Indian Railways observed World Environment Day in an appropriate and befitting manner keeping in line with the theme of this year's World Environment Day. In a gala ceremony in Berlin, Indian Railways was awarded by the UIC International Sustainable Railway Awards (ISRA) in the category of "Best use of Zero-Carbon Technology" for feeding Solar Energy directly to 25 KV AC Traction System.
Railways is an environmental friendly means of bulk transportation. For environment protection, Railways has been continuously taking major initiatives that have positive impact on the environment by way of reducing pollution/GHG emissions, promoting resources and energy efficiency and contributing to sustainability.

Jennifer Lopez Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at MTV Movie & TV Awards

Jennifer Lopez was awarded the Generation Award at t MTV Movie & TV Awards. This award function was held in Santa Monica, California. MTV Movie & TV Awards recognizes actors who have diversely contributed to both film and TV industry and are known in every household. Vanessa Hudgens hosted the Generation Awards. Jennifer Lopez received the lifetime achievement award.
Previously, Sandra Bullock, Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Cruise, Chris Pratt, The Rock, Robert Downey Jr. and Reese Witherspoon are among the many to receive this prestigious award. Jennifer Lopez started her career in the early 1990s. Her initial breakthrough came as a dancer in In Living Color, a sketchy comedy series. Lopez then pursued an acting career and landed a leading role in the movie "Selena". Then she appeared in many films such as "Hustlers", "Out of Sight," "Anaconda," "The Wedding Planner," and her latest, "Marry Me."

Dutch Film 'Turn Your Body to the Sun' Bags Golden Conch Award for the Best Documentary at MIFF 2022

The Dutch documentary film "Turn Your Body to the Sun", which tells the incredible story of a Soviet Prisoner of War, won the prestigious Golden Conch award for the Best Documentary Film at MIFF 2022. Directed by Aliona Van der Horst, 'Turn Your Body to the Sun' brings to light the incredible life story of a Soviet soldier of Tatar descent, who was captured by the Nazis during World War II. Through his diaries as well as various personal and public archives and registries, his daughter Sana attempts to trace the path of her father to understand what made him the man she knew as a child.
The top award of the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short Fiction and Animation Films was presented by the Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshiyari. 'Closed to the Light' directed and produced by Italian film-maker Nicola Piovesan won the 'Pramod Pati – Most Innovative / Experimental Film' in this edition. Nicola Piovesan will get Rs.1,00,000 cash prize along with a trophy and certificate.

Indian American Harini Logan Wins 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee

Harini Logan was eliminated from the Scripps National Spelling Bee once, then reinstated. She missed four words in a gruelling standoff against Vikram Raju, including one that would have given her the title. In the first-ever lightning-round tiebreaker, Harini finally claimed the trophy. The 13-year-old eighth-grader from San Antonio, Texas, who competed in the last fully in-person bee three years ago and endured the pandemic to make it back, spelt 21 words correctly during a 90-second spell-off, beating Vikram by six.
Harini, one of the best-known spellers entering the bee and a crowd favourite for her poise and positivity, wins more than $50,000 in cash and prizes. She is the fifth Scripps champion to be coached by Grace Walters, a former speller, fellow Texan and student at Rice University who is considering bowing out of the coaching business. If so, she will depart on top.
