Govt. Notifies Justice Muralidhar's Transfer to Punjab and Haryana High Court
The Centre notified the transfer of Justice S. Muralidhar from Delhi High Court to Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Muralidhar was part of the division bench that had rapped Delhi police on non registration of first information report (FIR). He had asked the Delhi Police to take a "conscious decision" on the registration of FIRs against political leaders for allegedly giving hate speeches.
The case would be heard by a division bench headed by Chief Justice DN Patel.
The Supreme Court collegium had recommended the transfer of Justice Muralidhar.
Apart from CJI Bobde, justices N. V. Ramana, Arun Mishra, R. F. Nariman and R. Banumathi are part of the new five-judge collegium.
Famous Historian and Professor S. Settar Passed Away
Renowned historian 85-years old Prof. Shadakshari Settar (S Settar) breathed his last at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Friday wee hours. He was suffering from age-related health issues and was admitted to the hospital a week ago.
According to his family members, he was suffering from breathing issues from last one week and water accumulated at his lungs. His mortal remains will be shifted to his residence at Bhoopasandra in Bengaluru. He was survived by a wife and two daughters.
He born in Hampasagar in Ballari district and did his studies at Karnatak University, Dharwad, Mysore University and Cambridge University. He worked as a professor in Dharwad, served as director of National Museum Institute of the History of Art, Conservation and Museology. He also served as president of Indian Council of Historical Research, Dr. S Radhakrishnan Chair at the NIAS, worked as visiting professor to many foreign universities and later professor emeritus.
Renowned Vedic Scholar and Gandhian Sudhakar Chaturvedi passed away in Bengaluru today. The centenarian was given the title Chaturvedi for his mastery over the four vedas. Deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and Arya Samaj movement, he had ed over 50 spiritual books in four languages. He had spent his last few years in the teaching of Vedas to young enthusiasts.
Abhishek Next Ambassador of India to Venezuela
Diplomat Abhishek Singh has been appointed India's next Ambassador to Venezuela.
Singh, a 2003-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian embassy in Kabul, the MEA said in a statement.
He is expected to take up the assignment "shortly".
S. N. Shrivastava New Police Commissioner of Delhi
The home ministry appointed S. N. Shrivastava as Delhi's Police Commissioner.
Shrivastava is currently Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi, a charge he was given on Tuesday.
The 1985 batch Indian Police Service officer takes over from Amulya Patnaik, who superannuates on Saturday.
Shrivastava has earlier served as Special Director General of the Jammu and Kashmir Zone of CRPF, and headed the Delhi police's special cell.
He has been tasked with taking over the force from 1 March "until further orders".
The Delhi police received major flak for failing to contain the violence that gripped the city's north-east district since Sunday.

Former Tamil Nadu Minister K. P. P. Samy Passes Away
Former Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (DMK) present Thiruvottiyur (state assembly constituency) Member of Legislative assembly (MLA) K. P. P. Samy passed away at age of 57 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Samy born in Chennai was elected as MLA of Tiruvottiyur in 2006 election and became Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development and corporation Minister between 2006 and 2011 under the cabinet formed by the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi.
Centenarian freedom fighter and Vedic scholar Sudhakar Krishna Rao, widely known as Sudhakar Chaturvedi died due to old age related ailments. Rao, an eye-witness to the Jalianwala Bagh massacre on April 13, 1919, breathed his last at his resident in. He was said to be 122 year old. Rao was given the title Pundit Sudhakar Chaturvedi for his authority on all the four Vedas.

Jawed Ashraf Appointed India's Next Envoy to France
Diplomat Jawed Ashraf was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to France.
Ashraf, a 1991-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is currently serving as Indian High Commissioner to Singapore and is expected to take up the assignment shortly.
A career diplomat, High Commissioner Ashraf joined the IFS in 1991.
He served in Frankfurt and Berlin from 1993 to 1999 and he worked in the Americas Division of MEA in New Delhi from 1999 to 2004.

Hosni Mubarak, Egyptian President Dies
Hosni Mubarak, Egypt's autocratic former president who ruled with an iron fist for three decades before being toppled during the Arab spring protests in 2011, died aged 91.
Mubarak became a symbol of thuggish and brutal authority after taking power in 1981 following the assassination of Anwar Sadat. His reign was marked by the emergence of a paranoid and cruel police state supported by a network of sprawling military businesses and corrupt crony businessmen.
Cibil Appoints Rajesh Kumar as MD and CEO
TransUnion Cibil, the largest credit information bureau, appointed Rajesh Kumar of HDFC Bank as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Kumar succeeded Satish Pillai who became the president of Asia region business of the US-based company.
Prior to joining Cibil, Kumar was the group head for retail credit and risk at HDFC Bank. With two decades of experience at HDFC Bank, he helped the second largest bank grow its retail lending book to USD 50 billion, leading a team of more than 3,000 officers.
In his role as the MD and chief executive, Kumar will be responsible for steering Cibil India's business into the next phase by ensuring it continues to support the domestic finance industry and consumers.
