ICRA Appoints N. Srinivasan as MD and Group CEO

Domestic rating agency ICRA appointed N. Sivaraman as its new Managing Director and group Chief Executive Officer, more than a year after its previous head was forced to proceed on leave.
Sivaraman, who has spent over 34 years with engineering major L&T, will drive the agency's business strategy and innovation, build organisational capabilities, and strengthen objectivity of ratings.
Last July, ICRA board asked its then managing director and group chief executive Naresh Takkar to go on leave till the completion of an enquiry against him after an anonymous complaint was sent to markets regulator Sebi. It was alleged that there were malpractices in the rating of IL&FS where financial troubles came to light in late 2018.
The agency had then named Chief Financial Officer Vipul Agarwal as the interim Chief Operating Officer.

Archana Soreng Becomes a Member of António Guterres's New Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres named Indian climate activist Archana Soreng among 7 members to his new Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change. The members will advise him regularly on accelerating global action and also provide solutions to tackle the worsening climate crisis. This is to mobilise climate action as part of the COVID-19 recovery efforts.
The members are between the ages of 18 and 28 years old.
The members of the Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change represent the diverse voices of young people from all regions as well as small island states.
They will offer perspectives and solutions on climate change, from science to community mobilization, from entrepreneurship to politics, and from industry to conservation.
Nisreen Elsaim from Sudan, Ernest Gibson from Fiji, Vladislav Kaim from Moldova, Sophia Kianni from the United States, Nathan Metenier from France and Paloma Costa from Brazil.

Olivia de Havilland Passes Away

Olivia de Havilland, one of the last remaining stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood, died at the age of 104.
De Havilland's career spanned more than 50 years and almost 50 feature films, and she was the last surviving star from Gone with the Wind (1939).
The film earned her one of her five Oscar nominations.
De Havilland, who had lived in Paris since 1960, was central in taking down Hollywood's studio system, giving actors better contracts.
She also had a tempestuous relationship with her sister, fellow Oscar-winning actress Joan Fontaine.
At the time of her death, De Havilland was the oldest living performer to have won an Oscar. She died of natural causes at her home in the French capital.

Sahil Seth Honorary Adviser for BRICS CCI

Sahil Seth, a 2011 Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer, currently posted as deputy commissioner, customs in Mumbai has been appointed honorary advisor to the steering committee for BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) for young leaders. The appointment is for the session 2020 to 2023.
The role is on a voluntary basis, and no financials are involved, thus making it a no/zero remuneration appointment.
The BRICS CCI is the parent organisation which promotes commerce and industry in the BRICS nations. The chamber, founded in 2012 with the efforts of eminent professionals and entrepreneurs, is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organisation.
The objective of BRICS CCI is to create an enabling support system especially for the MSME segment of businesses and young entrepreneurs from across all geographies. While the BRICS nations will remain at the centre of all activities, the chamber has taken in its credo to reach out to and enable young entrepreneurs from other friendly nations too. It proposes to be the 'voice' of young entrepreneurs and champion their business success.
The main purpose of the honorary advisers committee is to organise themselves in BRICS countries chapters (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), for three years with a chair leading the committee.

Partha Pratim Sengupta New MD and CEO of IOB

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) appointed Mr. Partha Pratim Sengupta as its new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and his tenure ends by December 31, 2022 or until further orders.
Mr. Partha Pratim Sengupta succeeded Karnam Sekar who retired in June 2020.
Sengupta was the deputy managing director of State Bank of India (SBI)
Prior to Deputy MD of SBI, he was the chief General manager at the country's largest lender's Kolkata circle.
He has more than three decades of experience in the Banking sector, in various domains.

Annie Ross, Singer Turned Actor, Passes Away

Annie Ross, a popular jazz singer in the 1950s before crossing over into a successful film career passes away. She was 89.
Ross rose to fame as the lead vocalist of one of jazz's most well-respected groups, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. The trio became known for the 1952 hit "Twisted," a tune by saxophonist Wardell Gray and written by Ross.
Despite the success, Ross decided to leave the group while feuding with group member Jon Hendricks while she battled heroin addiction.
Around 1975, she declared bankruptcy, lost her home and divorced Lynch, who soon died in a car crash.
While Ross struggled to find work as a singer, she turned her attention to acting. She appeared in plays such as "A View From the Bridge" along with the musical production "The Pirates of Penzance."

Jetha Patel New GCMMF Chairman

Jetha Patel, head of Sabar Dairy was unanimously appointed as the new chairman of Asia's largest milk federation, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which markets its products under the brand name Amul.
Patel was elected to the post after the ouster of former Chairman Vipul Chaudhary.
Banas Dairy's Chairman and former Chairman of GCMMF Parthi Bhatol today proposed the name of Jetha Patel at GCMMF board meeting, which was supported by Anand Dairy's Chairman Ramji Patel and later all the 17 members of the Federation.
Chaudhary, who was ousted in January this year, also supported Jetha Patel's name.
