Rajesh Kumar New Manipur Chief Secretary

Senior IAS officer Rajesh Kumar was appointed the new Chief Secretary of Manipur.
Kumar, who was the additional Chief Secretary, is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1988 batch, belonging to the Manipur cadre.
J. Suresh Babu retired as the Chief Secretary of the state on his scheduled superannuation from government service.

Nippon Life India AMC Appoints Parekh Ashvin as Independent Director

Nippon Life India Asset Management (NAM India), asset manager of Nippon India Mutual Fund (NIMF), appointed Parekh Ashvin, as Independent Director for 5 years.
Parekh brings with him more than 40 years of rich experience in business and operational strategies in banking, insurance, asset management and para-banking Institutions across the Indian sub-continent, US, Europe and Australia. He was Senior Partner of Ernst & Young before his retirement and most recently, served as the Chairman of National Pension Scheme.

UP Minister Kamal Rani Varun Passes Away

Uttar Pradesh minister Kamal Rani Varun, who had earlier tested positive for the novel coronavirus, died due to the infection in Lucknow. She was 62.
Kamal Rani Varun, who served as Minister of Technical Education, is the first minister in Uttar Pradesh to die after contracting coronavirus.
Kamal Rani was MLA from Ghatampur in Kanpur. In the past, she was also a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha twice.
Kamal Rani was the only woman cabinet minister in UP following Rita Bahuguna Joshi's resignation after getting elected to the Lok Sabha.

Rajya Sabha Member Amar Singh Passes Away

Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh died at a Singapore hospital. Singh had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for several months. He was 64.
Leaders across the political spectrum condoled Amar Singh's death.
The flamboyant businessman-politician, who once counted India's most influential icons from industry, politics and Bollywood among his closest friends, had been a key player in the cut and thrust of Indian politics till about a decade ago. Back in 2008, he also helped the then Manmohan Singh government survive a crucial trust vote that eventually led to his arrest three years later. He was accused of offering bribes to three BJP MPs to get them to support the UPA.
It was a chance encounter with Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav on a flight back in 1996 that led him to enter politics. He joined as its general secretary and soon became Mulayam Singh Yadav's crisis manager and the face of SP in Delhi's power circles.

Urjit Patel Additional & Independent Director of Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd

Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd appointed former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Urjit Patel as an additional and independent director for a term of 5 years, effective from August 01, 2020.
He was appointed as the Chairman of the Governing Body of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) for a 4 year term on June 22, 2020.

Lee Teng-hui: Taiwan's 'Father of Democracy' Passes Away

Former Taiwanese President Lee Teng-hui, considered the "father of Taiwan's democracy", died at the age of 97.
He served as President of Taiwan, from 1988 to 2000.
Lee was credited with ending autocratic rule in favour of pluralism and democracy - but was also a controversial figure.
His attempts to delink the island from China sparked tensions with Beijing, which sees Taiwan as part of its territory to be reunited one day.
During his time in office he led constitutional changes towards a more democratic political layout, including direct presidential elections.
Lee thrived on defying China's drive to absorb the island and hoped for Taiwan to be "a country of democracy, freedom, human rights and dignity.

Hardik Satishchandra Shah Private Secretary to PM Modi

IAS officer Hardik Satishchandra Shah has been appointed the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah, a 2010-batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, is currently serving as a Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
He has been appointed as the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister on co-terminus basis.
Before moving to the PMO last year, he worked as the Private Secretary to Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Padma Shri Awardee Sonam Tshering Lepcha Passes Away

Folk musician and Padma Shri awardee Sonam Tshering Lepcha passed away at Kalimpong due to old age ailments. He was 92.
Sonam Tshering Lepcha Ji was a a multi-faceted personality. He made outstanding efforts to popularise the great Lepcha culture.
He was highly reverred in Sikkim, where he spent much of his time for his role in the revival of Lepcha culture, which is an indigenous one in Sikkim.
He was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of folk music.
