Prof. Imran Ali Joins Global List of Highly Cited Researchers 2020

  • Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Professor Imran Ali of the Department of Chemistry has secured the coveted title of Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) 2020 released by the USA's Web of Science, Clarivate Plc. Moreover, previously he received the number one position among scientists in India and 24th in the World in the field of Analytical Chemistry by a group of scientists from the University of Stanford, USA.
  • HCR 2020 identifies researchers who "demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade." Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year on the Web of Science citation index.
  • The HCR 2020 'who's who' list includes 6,167 researchers from 60 different countries. The list includes 26 Nobel laureates.

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Passes Away

  • Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi died from post-COVID complications. 
  • Gogoi was the Chief Minister for terms. He became Chief Minister for the first time in 2001.
  • Gogoi was the MLA from the Titabor assembly constituency since 2001. He was also a six-time parliamentarian and a Union minister twice.
  • Gogoi, an active leader of the Assam unit of Bharat Yuvak Samaj, joined the Congress in 1963 and since then had been a party loyalist, pledging his support to Indira Gandhi, her son Rajiv Gandhi and then Sonia Gandhi. He also served the party as AICC general secretary and joint secretary in the 1980s, and headed the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee twice from 1986-90 and again from 1996 to 2001.

Agastya Jaiswal from Hyderabad Becomes first Graduate at Just 14 Years

  • Fourteen-year-old Agastya Jaiswal from Hyderabad has claimed himself to be the first student in India to complete his graduation at the age of 14 years.
  • Jaiswal has completed his BA Mass Communication and Journalism Degree from Osmania University.
  • He is also the first boy in Telangana to pass Class 10 at the age of 9 years with 7.5 GPA. At 11 years of age, he was also the first boy in Telangana to pass the intermediate examination with 63 per cent.
  • He is also a national-level table tennis player.

Bihar Education Minister Mewalal Choudhary Resigns from Newly Formed Cabinet

  • Newly-appointed Bihar Education Minister Mewalal Choudhary resigned from his cabinet post. He tendered his resignation within 72 hours of taking oath as a cabinet minister following the pressure from the opposition over corruption charges levelled against him.
  • His resignation has been accepted by the Governor.
  • The education portfolio has been given to Ashok Choudhary who is also in charge of the Science and Technology Department, Building Construction Department, Social Welfare Department and Minority Welfare Departments.
  • Mewalal Choudhary is accused of misusing his position as the vice-chancellor of Bhagalpur's Sabaur Agriculture University in 2011 to influence the recruitment of 161 assistant professors and junior scientists.

  • First woman Governor of Goa and senior BJP leader Mridula Sinha passed away at the age of 77.
  • Mridula Sinha was an Indian writer and politician who served as Governor of Goa from August 2014 to October 2019.

Kris Gopalakrishnan as Chairperson of RBI's Innovation Hub

  • Gopalakrishnan, co-founder and former co-Chairman, Infosys, has been appointed as the first Chairperson of the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub.
  • Gopalakrishnan is currently the Chief Mentor of Start-up Village, an incubation hub for start-ups.
  • RBIH would be guided and managed by a governing council led by a Chairperson.
  • Other members of the governing council are CEO (to be appointed), Ashok Jhunjhunwala (Institute Professor, IIT, Madras), H Krishnamurthy (Principal Research Scientist, IISc, Bengaluru), Gopal Srinivasan (CMD, TVS Capital Funds), A P Hota (Former CEO, NPCI), Mrutyunjay Mahapatra (Former CMD, Syndicate Bank), T Rabi Sankar (Executive Director, RBI), Deepak Kumar (CGM, Department of Information Technology, RBI), and K Nikhila (Director, Institute for Development & Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad).

Former HP Assembly Speaker Tulsi Ram Passes Away

  • Former Himachal Pradesh assembly speaker and senior BJP leader Tulsi Ram passed away at Palampur. He was 78.
  • Tulsi Ram was the speaker of the Himachal Pradesh assembly from 2007 to 2012 and was elected MLA thrice in 1990, 1998 and 2007 from the Bharmour assembly constituency.
  • He was a great statesman who worked tirelessly for the cause of vulnerable sections of society.
  • Tulsi Ram's contributions for the development of the Bharmour assembly constituency were immense and he would always be remembered.
