Hitesh, Sachin Siwach Lead India's Winning Start at World Boxing Cup Kazakhstan 2025

  • India began its campaign at the World Boxing Cup Kazakhstan 2025 on a promising note with Hitesh Gulia and Sachin Siwach with dominant, unanimous wins in their opening preliminary bouts at the Beeline Arena.
  • Hitesh, a gold medallist from the Brazil leg, outclassed Olympian Kan Chia-Wei of Chinese Taipei 5:0 in the light middleweight division. Sachin, a bronze winner in Brazil, was equally convincing in his 5:0 win over Canada's Al-Ahmadieh Keoma-Ali in the lightweight category at the Beeline Arena.
  • In women's competition, Minakshi began her campaign with a clean 5:0 win over Australia's Madeleine Bowen in the light flyweight division, while Muskan edged England's Kerry Davis in a closely contested 3:2 decision in the middleweight category.
  • The Kazakhstan leg will run until July 7, with over 400 boxers from 31 countries, including Olympians, contesting across 10 weight categories in both men's and women's divisions. India has fielded a 20-member team.

  • Mandhana reached this feat during her side's first T20I of five matches against England at Nottingham. During the game, the left-handed opener smashed 112 in just 62 balls, with 15 fours and three sixes, at a strike rate of 180.65.
  • Overall, across the world, only five players have achieved this massive accomplishment of being an all-format centurion in women's cricket, with England's Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont, South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt and Australia's Beth Mooney being others besides Mandhana.

  • Ayush Shetty clinched his maiden title on the BWF World Tour defeating Canada's Brian Yang 21-18, 21-13 in the US Open final at Council Bluffs, Iowa.
  • However, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma went down 21-11, 16-21, 21-10 to top seed and home favourite Beiwen Zhang in the women's final.
  • Ayush, currently ranked 34th in the world, became the first Indian shuttler to win a title this season. He also ended the nation's wait for a men's singles title away from home since Lakshya Sen's triumph at the Canada Open in 2023.

Praggnanandhaa Wins UzChess Cup

  • Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa clinched the UzChess Cup Masters 2025 title in Tashkent, marking his third major classical tournament victory this year. The win propelled him to a live rating of 2778.3, making him World No. 4 and India's top-ranked player, ahead of fellow Grandmasters D. Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi.

  • The fifth edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) will be held in Jaipur in November 2025 with more than 4,000 students expected to take part in the competition, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced.
  • Poornima University and Rajasthan University will jointly host the Under-25 multi-sport Games which will see participation of more than 200 Universities.
  • Like previous editions, there will be at least 20 disciplines on the KIUG 2025 programme.

  • India made history in the second Asian Doubles Squash Championships 2025 at the Arena Emas in Kuching, Malaysia by securing hat-trick of gold medals in men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles — a feat never achieved before by the nation in any of the Asian or World doubles squash championship.
  • The duo of Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar defeated Pakistan's Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal. In women's doubles, the Joshna Chinappa and Anahat Singh pair overcame Amani and Xin Ying Yee (Malaysia).

Cricket Ireland Confirms Departure of Warren Deutrom

  • Cricket Ireland announced the departure of Chief Executive Officer, Warren Deutrom, from his position. He will step down from his role at the end of August after almost 19 years at the helm of Irish cricket's national governing body.
  • During his tenure, Ireland has grown in stature in world cricket and in 2017 was awarded Full Member/Test status of the International Cricket Council - only 12 out of 108 cricket-playing nations hold this elite status.
  • Warren has been in cricket administration for almost 30 years, including stints as head of events for both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and for the England and Wales Cricket Board.
