Raksha Khadse Inaugurates ABC Pro Basketball League Season 4 in Pune
Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse inaugurated Season 4 of the ABC Pro Basketball League at the Rajaram Bhiku Pathare Stadium in Kharadi, Pune. The event celebrated the growing momentum of grassroots basketball in India and highlighted the government's commitment to nurturing young sporting talent under the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' and the goals of 'Khelo Bharat Niti 2025'.
Organisers revealed that over 5,000 young players from across Maharashtra took part in the selection trials. Following a rigorous auction process, 310 players were chosen to represent 19 teams across boys' and girls' Under-14 and Under-17 categories. All matches will be held indoors at a state-of-the-art facility to ensure a high standard of play and development.
The tournament concludes on July 12, 2025.

Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, the poster boy of Indian athletics, won the inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, a World Athletics gold-level event, with a best throw of 86.18m at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
Kenya's Julius Yego finished second with a season-best throw of 84.51m, while Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage came third with a throw of 84.34m.
ICC Appoints Sanjog Gupta as Chief Executive Officer
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He replaced Geoff Allardice, who stepped down earlier this year (2025). Gupta's experience in sports broadcasting and leadership in the media industry is seen as a major boost for the future of world cricket.
Twelve candidates were shortlisted, and after several rounds of review, Gupta was unanimously chosen. The final decision was approved by ICC Chairman Jay Shah and the ICC Board.

Skipper Shubman Gill's classic maiden double hundred carried India to a formidable 587 all out in their first innings against England on the second day of the second Test . The first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival will be held at Srinagar's iconic Dal Lake from August 21-23. This was announced by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya.
As part of its growing Khelo India calendar, the inaugural edition of the Water Games in Jammu and Kashmir follows the first Khelo India Beach Games, held in Diu in May. The water sports festival will feature five sports: kayaking and canoeing, rowing, water skiing, a shikara race, and dragon boat racing.

Sudhanshu Mittal was re-elected as President while Upkar Singh Virk was elected as the General Secretary, as the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) officially announced its new Governing Body following the successful conduct of elections at the KKFI headquarters in the national capital.
The elections were overseen by Dr. Kamini Lau, District Judge (Retd.), who was the Returning Officer. Govind Sharma was elected as the Treasurer of the new regime.

The Union Cabinet approved the National Sports Policy on July 1, 2025. The newly approved policy aims to integrate sports into daily life, fuel economic growth, and build a robust, athlete-centric ecosystem. Developed through extensive stakeholder consultation, the policy emphasises excellence, inclusivity, infrastructure accessibility, and community engagement across the country.
The new policy supersedes the existing National Sports Policy, 2001, and lays out a visionary and strategic roadmap to establish India as a global sporting powerhouse and a strong contender for excellence at international sporting events, including the 2036 Olympic Games.
The NSP 2025 is the outcome of extensive consultations involving Central Ministries, NITI Aayog, State Governments, National Sports Federations (NSFs), athletes, domain experts, and public stakeholders.
This policy is anchored on 5 pillars: Excellence on the Global Stage, Sports for Economic Development, Sports for Social Development, Sports as a People's Movement, Integration with Education (NEP 2020).
