India Left-arm Spinner Gouher Sultana Announces Retirement from Cricket

India left-arm spinner Gouher Sultana announced her retirement from international cricket.
With 66 ODI wickets at an average of 19.39, Sultana has the third-best for any India bowler to have taken at least 50 wickets in the format.
Sultana featured in two ODI World Cups, in 2009 and 2013, and grabbed 12 wickets in 11 fixtures at an average of 30.58. She has also played in three T20 World Cups from 2009 to 2014, and scalped seven wickets while bowling at an economy rate of 5.81.

Indian Opener Jaiswal Tops Wisden's 'Best 40 Young Players in the World' list

Nine young Indian talents made it to the list of 'The Best 40 Young Players in the World' issued by reputed cricket publication, Wisden, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal topping the charts and another rising Indian star in the top 10.
Jaiswal was ranked as number one. At a young age of 23, Jaiswal has emerged as the backbone of the Indian Test set-up, with 2,209 runs in 24 Tests and 46 innings at an average of 50.20, with six centuries and 12 fifties.
The second spot went to the West Indies pacer Jayden Seales. At number three was England's all-rounder Jacob Bethell. The fourth spot was occupied by New Zealand pacer Will O'Rourke. South African left-hander Lhuan Dre-Pretorious took the fifth spot.
Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah (6th), Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (7th) and teen South African pace sensation Kwena Maphaka (8th), the Gujarat Titans (GT) star Sai Sudharsan is at ninth spot and Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran (10th).

Errani, Vavassori Win US Open Mixed Doubles Crown

Doubles specialists Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori successfully defended their crown in the first-ever US Open mixed doubles championship. Errani and Vavassori defeated Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 in the final.

Tapasya Gehlawat Becomes Under-20 World Champion

Tapasya Gehlawat became the Under-20 World Champion with a 5-2 win over Norway's Felicitas Domajeva in the women's 57 Kg final at Samokov, Bulgaria.
Tapsya knows there are bigger prizes to be won. She is also part of the Indian squad that will be competing at the senior World Championships in Zagreb, and a strong performance there will be critical if she has to stand out in a division that has no shortage of talent in India.

Anantjeet Singh Naruka Wins Skeet Gold at Asian Shooting Championship 2025

Olympian Anantjeet Singh Naruka secured India's first senior gold medal at the Asian Shooting Championships 2025, winning the top prize in the men's skeet event in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

Himalayan Kingfisher Unveiled as Mascot for Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025 in Srinagar

The mascot and logo for the first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival (KIWSF) were unveiled in Srinagar. The event is taking place at the iconic Dal Lake from August 21 to 23, making it the first water games event under the Khelo India umbrella.
This major sports initiative, held under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and organised in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), will boost both sports culture and eco-tourism in the Kashmir Valley.
The colourful Himalayan Kingfisher was revealed as the official mascot of KIWSF 2025.
The newly launched logo captures the essence of Kashmir's landscape and its connection to water.
This is Jammu & Kashmir's second Khelo India event in 2025, following the snow sports at Gulmarg earlier this year, positioning the region as a multi-season sports hub.

India Women ODI World Cup 2025 Squad

Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India for the first time in 50-overs World Cup as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Women's ODI squad for the showpiece event. Star opener Smriti Mandhana was appointed as Harmanpreet's deputy as India is marked to open its campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30.

Pakistan, Oman Pull Out of Asia Cup Hockey in Bihar

The upcoming Asia Cup Hockey in Rajgir, Bihar, has seen some changes, with Pakistan and Oman withdrawing from the tournament. Pakistan, traditionally one of the biggest names in Asian hockey, will not participate, paving the way for Bangladesh to make the cut. Oman too decided against participation, with Kazakhstan taking their place in the competition.
The event, scheduled from August 29 to September 7.

Iga Świątek, the Polish star, defeated Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4 and claimed the 2025 women's Cincinnati Open title, her first hard-court trophy in over a year. The win not only marked her 24th career title but also sends a strong message to her rivals: she is ready for the U.S. Open.

Asia Cup 2025: Gill Vice-captain

India Test captain Shubman Gill made his return to the T20I format and was appointed vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE.
The other notable inclusions in the squad were pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who both returned to the T20I side after last year's T20 World Cup title in Barbados.
Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana and Rinku Singh retained their place in the squad that featured in the five-match T20I series against England earlier this year.
The eight-team Asia Cup T20I tournament will be staged in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from September 9 to 28. Defending champions India are placed in Group 'A' alongside Pakistan, Oman and the UAE.

Over 500 Humanoid Robots Compete at World Robot Games

The future of robotics was on full display in Beijing, where more than 500 humanoid robots from 16 countries competed in the World Humanoid Robot Games. The four-day international event, pushed the boundaries of robotics by testing humanoid machines in sports, dance, and real-world tasks, offering a thrilling mix of precision, power, and mishap.
Humanoid robots, built to replicate the physical structure and movement of humans, went head-to-head in 26 different competitive events. These included traditional athletic formats and futuristic demonstrations of robotic dexterity and problem-solving.

Akshay Gupta Secures Podium Finish at 6-hour Endurance Race at Nurburgring Racetrack in Germany

Indian endurance racer and tech entrepreneur Akshay Gupta returned to the podium in the ADAC Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) with a 2nd place finish in the VT2-F 4WD class at the KW 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen, the sixth round of the championship.
Driving the Hyundai i30N for STENLE Marketing Team Mertens Motorsport alongside German Alex Schneider and Belgian Jarno D'Hauw, Gupta delivered a strong comeback performance in one of the world's toughest endurance series, according to a release from Akshay Gupta Media team.

Alcaraz Wins the Cincinnati Open

Carlos Alcaraz won the Cincinnati Open title after top-ranked Jannik Sinner was forced to retire because of illness during the first set.
Meeting in the final for the fourth time this year and first since Wimbledon, Sinner fell behind 5-0 in the first set with nine unforced errors. He was seen with an icepack on his head during a break and retired after playing just 22 minutes.
It was only the third time the Cincinnati Open men's final ended in a retirement, and the first since 2011 when Novak Djokovic stopped playing in the second set because of a shoulder injury.

England announced Jacob Bethell as their captain for their three-match T20I series against Ireland in Dublin next month. The 21-year-old all-rounder is hence the youngest ever captain England had across formats, a record that has stood for about 136 years.

Devika Sihag Clinches Women's Singles Crown at Malaysia International Challenge 2025

Indian shuttler Devika Sihag claimed the women's singles title at the Malaysia International Challenge 2025 badminton tournament in Ipoh.
Devika who was also part of India's bronze medal-winning team at the World University Games 2025 in Germany, got the better of compatriot and fifth seed Isharani Baruah 15-7, 15-12 in a final that lasted just 25 minutes.
This tournament was played under the BWF's experimental 3x15 scoring system, where matches are decided in best-of-three games of 15 points each, instead of the traditional 21-point format.

Anahat Singh Finishes Runner-up at NSW Squash Bega Open

Second seed Habiba Hani of Egypt beat top seed Anahat Singh in the final of the $27,500 Bega Open PSA women's squash tournament in Australia.
Habiba led 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 10-4 when Anahat retired, unable to sustain her challenge owing to an ankle injury.
