Indian Golfer Tvesa Malik Clinches Maiden International Title in South Africa

Indian golfer Tvesa Malik, clinched her first international title, with a three-shot win in the SuperSport Ladies Challenge, the opening event of the Sunshine Ladies Golf Tour in South Africa.
Tvesa became the second Indian after Diksha Dagar to win in South Africa. Diksha Dagar won the Women's South African Open in 2019.

India Women's Chief Hockey Coach Janneke Schopman Resigns from Post

Janneke Schopman, chief coach of the Indian women's hockey team, resigned from her post. The Dutch coach submitted her resignation to Hockey India President Padma Dilip Tirkey after the conclusion of the Indian women's hockey team's outing in the home leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League in Odisha.
She had taken charge from former chief coach Sjoerd Marine under whose leadership India finished in a historic fourth position at the Tokyo Olympics.

An Eight-year-old Indian-origin Boy from Singapore Beats Polish Grandmaster

An eight-year-old Indian-origin boy defeated Polish chess grandmaster (GM) Jacek Stopa at the Burgdorfer Stadthaus Open in Switzerland, becoming the youngest player to defeat a GM in classical chess.
Ashwath Kaushik, who represented Singapore, defeated Stopa, who at 37 is nearly five times older than him.
The previous record was set only a few weeks earlier when Serbia's Leonid Ivanovic, who is several months older than Ashwath, beat 60-year-old Bulgarian grandmaster Milko Popchev at the Belgrade Open.
Ashwath had made waves in 2022 after emerging as a triple champion in the chess variations — classic, rapid and blitz — at the under-8 Eastern Asia Youth Championship.

His remarkable achievement came during an exhilarating clash between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.
In a display of sheer brilliance, Babar Azam achieved the monumental feat in his 271st innings, surpassing cricketing stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and David Warner in an elite list. This remarkable accomplishment solidifies Babar's status as one of the premier batters in the shortest format of the game.

Ladakh Organises 'World's Highest Frozen Lake Marathon' on Pangong Tso

Ladakh's Pangong Lake marathon, dubbed the 'world's highest frozen lake marathon', on Pangong Tso which was held, had about 120 runners from seven countries.
This year (2024) marked the second edition of the event, organised jointly by Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh with the support of the Administration Union Territory of Ladakh and the 14 Corps of the Indian Army.
The event was organised with the agenda to bring attention towards the melting Himalayan glaciers, which pose a massive threat to our environment. The run was titled as 'theastrun', suggesting that this might be the last run on the frozen lake, which faces a threat due to climate change.
Notably, the maiden marathon run conducted in 2023 was recorded in the Guinness World Record as the world's highest frozen lake half marathon.

MI Emirates Wins ILT20 Title by Defeating Dubai Capitals

Nicholas Pooran led MI Emirates secured their first ILT20 title by defeating Dubai Capitals by 45 runs in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
MI Emirates set a record score of 208 for 3 in 20 overs and in reply, Capitals could muster only 163 for 7 in 20 overs.

Women's Premier League 2024

The Women's Premier League's second season, a women's T20 cricket championship, is scheduled to kick off on February 23, as previously disclosed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This prestigious event will commence on February 23 and conclude on March 17, featuring a total of 22 games – 20 regular season matches, one eliminator, and the championship match.
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host all games up until March 4, after which the venue will shift to the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the remaining fixtures. The opening game will see the Mumbai Indians, the reigning champions, go head-to-head with the previous year's runner-up, the Delhi Capitals, in Bengaluru. Teams vying for the WPL 2024 title include the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz.

Pranati Nayak Clinches Bronze Medal in Women's Vault Event

Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak clinched the bronze medal in the women's vault event at the FIG Apparatus World Cup in Cairo, Egypt.
The event crucial for the Paris Olympics qualification, witnessed Nayak's stellar performance as she earned an impressive aggregate score of 13.616 points, securing her spot on the podium. Korea's An Chang-Ok who scored 14.230 points won the gold medal while Bulgaria's Valentina Georgieva clinched silver with 13.620 points.
