Uttarakhand Chief Minister Flags off State Team for Khelo Masters National Championship

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off the Uttarakhand team from the Chief Minister's Camp Office for the fourth Khelo Masters National Championship to be held in New Delhi from April 11 to 13.
  • The event will feature athletics, football, basketball, hockey, shooting, badminton, table tennis, and volleyball.

Cricket in 2028 Olympics: Organisers Confirm Six Teams to Participate at LA Games

  • Organisers confirmed the return of cricket, to the Olympic Games after 128 years, at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics to be held from July 14 to 30, 2028, only six teams will be in contention for the coveted gold medal.
  • Last played in the Olympics as a one-off match in Paris in 1900, cricket will be part of the LA 2028 Games as well as in Brisbane four years later in 2032.
  • Organisers confirmed that the LA tournament would be played in the T20 format with six teams competing in both the men's and women's competitions. Consequently, 90 player quotas have been allocated for each gender, allowing every team to name a 15-member squad.

  • Indian Wushu athletes delivered a spectacular performance at the 10th Sanda World Cup 2025, being held in Jiangyin, China, from April 5 to 10. A six-member Indian contingent demonstrated remarkable skill and determination against some of the world's best fighters.
  • Mukesh Choudhary secured a gold medal in the 75 kg category after an impressive victory over Yoan Benbedra from France in the final.

Harry Brook Appointed as England's New White-ball Captain

  • Harry Brook was officially named England's new white-ball captain, taking charge of both the T20I and ODI sides. The appointment came in the wake of Jos Buttler stepping down following England's early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy in March.
  • Brook has already served as vice-captain in the white-ball setup for the past year and previously led the team during a five-match ODI series against Australia last September (2024) in Buttler's absence.

Hitesh Gets Gold as India Ends Campaign with Six Medals

  • The Indian boxing contingent ended its campaign at the World Boxing Cup with an impressive haul of six medals, including a gold won by Hitesh. It was India's first-ever outing in an elite-level international meet organised by World Boxing.
  • Hitesh became the first Indian boxer to clinch a gold medal in the World Boxing Cup. His opponent Odel Kamara of England was injured and couldn't take to the ring in the 70kg final.
  • Abhinash Jamwal gave his best against local favourite Yuri Reis in the final of the 65kg category but could not do enough to get a favourable verdict and bagged the silver medal. Four Indians — Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg), Manish Rathore (55kg), Sachin (60kg) and Vishal (90kg) — bagged bronze medals.
  • The World Boxing Cup: Brazil 2025 was hosted in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, from March 31 to April 5.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen Wins Japanese GP

  • Four-time world champion Max Verstappen led from pole to chequered flag and won the Japanese Grand Prix, his first victory of the 2025 season, with McLaren's Lando Norris second.

Rudrankksh Patil Wins His First ISSF World Cup Title

  • Nine months after failing to make the Indian shooting team for the Paris Olympics, Rudrankksh Patil won his first ISSF World Cup title with a dominant performance in the final of the men's 10m Air Rifle final in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • The Maharashtra shooter, only the second Indian shooter to win a World Championships gold after 2008 Beijing Olympics champion Abhinav Bindra, led throughout the eight-shooter final and beat Istvan Peni of Hungary in the gold medal elimination with a score of 252.9.

The 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship Begins in Jhansi

  • The 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship is taking place from April 4 to 15 at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The tournament is following the newly introduced division-based format, first implemented in the Senior Women's National Championship in March.
  • This year (2025), the championship introduced promotion and relegation battles, adding a competitive edge. A total of 30 teams are competing across three divisions: Division A, Division B, and Division C.
  • Division A is the top-tier division, where teams will compete for the national title. Division B will feature teams battling for promotion to Division A, while Division C will see teams aiming to move up to Division B. The bottom two teams from Division A will be relegated to Division B, while the top two from Division B will earn promotion. Similarly, the top two teams from Division C will move up to Division B, and the bottom two from Division B will be relegated.

Indian Team to Play Billie Jean King Cup 2025 Asia-Oceania Group-1

  • The Indian team will play the Billie Jean King Cup 2025 Asia-Oceania Group-1, organised by MSLTA in association with AITA and PMDTA, on home soil from April 8 to 12 at the Mhalunge Balewadi tennis complex in Pune.
  • India will be eyeing a berth in the play-offs stage for the second time in the tournament's history at the event being hosted after a decade in India, 25 years in Maharashtra and the first ever time in Pune.
