LA 2028 Games: IOC Reveals Venue for cricket's Olympics Return

The ICC welcomed the announcement that the Fairgrounds in Pomona, Southern California, will host cricket at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Excitement around cricket's Olympic comeback has been building since it was confirmed that the sport would return to the Games after a 128-year gap.

Hockey Punjab was crowned the champions of the prestigious 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2025 held in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh after defeating Hockey Madhya Pradesh 4-1 in Division 'A'.
Uttar Pradesh Hockey secured the third position after winning the game 5-1 against Manipur Hockey.

Sourav Ganguly Re-appointed as Chairperson of ICC Men's Cricket Committee

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that former India captain Sourav Ganguly will continue as the chair of its Men's Cricket Committee. Ganguly will lead a six-member panel focused on enhancing the quality and future of the sport across the globe.
Ganguly took over the role in 2021, succeeding his former teammate Anil Kumble, who stepped down after completing the maximum three terms of three years each as committee chair.
The committee also saw the return of former India cricketer VVS Laxman, who was re-appointed along with Ganguly. A somewhat surprising addition to the list is current South African ODI and Test captain Temba Bavuma. He joins Hamid Hassan, Desmond Haynes, and Jonathan Trott on the panel.

Magnus Carlsen Clinches Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025

In Chess, world number one Magnus Carlsen of Norway clinched the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025 in Paris, France. He defeated American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura with a 1.5-0.5 match victory. Moreover, Italian-American Fabiano Caruana crushed German Grandmaster Vincent Keymer in the battle of third place.

Shreyas Iyer Named ICC Men's Player of the Month - March 2025

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for March 2025, after starring in their Champions Trophy triumph in Dubai.
Iyer was the highest run-scorer in the competition, notching 243 of them, including critical knocks against New Zealand in the group stages and in the final as well.
Iyer edged out New Zealand's Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra to secure the award.

Shooting: India Finishes Second in Overall Standings in First Leg of ISSF World Cup

In the first leg of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2025 at Buenos Aires, Argentina, India finished second in the standings behind China. India won a total of 8 medals, including 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
The second stage of the ISSF World Cup 2025 is being held in Lima, Peru, from April 13 to 22.

ICC Joins Hands with BCCI, ECB and CA to Support Initiative for Displaced Afghan Women Cricketers

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the formation of a dedicated task force to support displaced Afghan women cricketers. In a landmark initiative, the ICC joined hands with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and Cricket Australia (CA) to assist these talented athletes in both their cricketing and personal development journeys.
As part of the initiative, the ICC will establish a dedicated fund to provide direct monetary assistance, ensuring these cricketers have the resources they need to continue pursuing the game they love. This will be complemented by a robust high-performance programme offering advanced coaching, world-class facilities, and tailored mentorship to help them reach their full potential.

Bihar CM, Union Sports Minister unveil logo, mascot of Khelo India Youth Games 2025

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the official logo of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 in Patna on April 14, 2025. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the Games's mascot during the programme organised at the Samvad hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
The mascot Khelo India is 'Gajsimha' which symbolises the power of elephant and heart of lion. The mascot has been derived from the archival heritage of Pala dynasty from Nalanda and Bodhgaya engraved on temples and their pillars.
The logo of KIYG 2025 has been inspired from the rich cultural heritage of Bihar and the colours orange and depicts enthusiasm and nature.
Mr. Kumar and Mr. Mandaviya also jointly released the theme song of the Youth Games, which will be held in the state for the first time from May 4 to 15. The Gaurav Yatra Rath of the sporting event was also flagged off.
The Games will be organised across five districts of Bihar — Patna, Nalanda (Rajgir), Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri led from the pole position and won the Bahrain Grand Prix, his second of the Formula One 2025 season at the Bahrain International Circuit. This was Piastri's second win after claiming the top position in the Shanghai Grand Prix.

Ace Tennis player Carlos Alcaraz registered a win over Lorenzo Musetti in the final and clinched his maiden Monte Carlo Masters title.
Alcaraz won 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in an hour and three-quarters to secure a sixth ATP Masters 1000 title of his career.

Javelin Thrower D. P. Manu Handed Four-Year Ban

Indian javelin thrower D. P. Manu was banned for four years by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after a positive test for a prohibited substance during the Indian Grand Prix athletics meet in Bengaluru last year (2024).
Manu is a silver medalist in the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok and a sixth-place finishing athlete in World Championships 2023 at Budapest.
