Nishad Kumar Beats Legendary Townsend

  • Nishad Kumar's gold was about patience, perseverance, and poetic timing. On his 26th birthday, he soared to an Asian record of 2.14m in the men's high jump T47, finally clutching the gold, in World Para Athletics Championships 2025, he had long craved.
  • It was his maiden gold in either Paralympics or world para championships.
  • He won a silver each in the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics, a bronze in the 2019 world championships and a silver in the 2023 edition.

Simran Wins 100m Gold in World Para Athletics Championships

  • Delhi's own Simran Sharma who set the tone - sprinting her way into history with a golden run in the women's 100m T12 final. The 25-year-old, running alongside her guide Umar Saifi, clocked a personal best of 11.95 seconds, clinching her maiden World Para Athletics Championships gold and India's first medal of the day.

Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver at 2025 World Championships

  • The World Weightlifting Championships 2025 is being held in Forde, Norway, scheduled from October 2 to 11. Athletes are competing in a total of 20 weight categories. Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu clinched a silver medal in the 48 kg division, achieving a total lift of 199 kg in the competition. She also set new national records in both Clean & Jerk (115 kg) and total lift (199 kg). This is her third World Championship medal.
  • North Korean weightlifter Ri Song-gum dominated the event by winning three gold medals in the 48 kg division, setting new world records with a 91 kg snatch, a 122 kg clean and jerk, and a total lift of 213 kg.
  • Thailand's Thanyathon Sukcharoen took the bronze medal with a total lift of 198 kg.

ICC T20I Rankings: Abhishek Sharma breaks World Record After Asia Cup Heroics

  • India's Abhishek Sharma rewritten the record books in the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings, posting a new high for batter ratings after a standout performance in the Asia Cup hosted in the United Arab Emirates. The 25-year-old left-hander surged to 931 rating points, eclipsing the previous best of 919 held by England's Dawid Malan since 2020. Sharma's achievement came on the back of a Player of the Series display, underscoring his dominance in the shortest format of the game and taking him past the career-best T20I rating set by Indian legend Virat Kohli, who had reached 909.

World Weightlifting Championships: Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver

  • Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu (48kg) clinched a silver medal at the World Championships in the 48kg category, extending her glittering record in the marquee event where she has been on the podium twice earlier.
  • The 2017 world champion and 2022 silver-medallist produced a total lift of 199kg (84kg in snatch + 115kg in clean and jerk) to be among the medal winners after moving down from the 49kg division.
