Kane Williamson Joins Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka announced that former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson joined the franchise as their new Strategic Advisor ahead of IPL 2026. The franchise, which finished seventh in the 2025 season, will be looking to rebuild after a disappointing campaign despite boasting some of the biggest names in world cricket, including Rishabh Pant — who became the highest-paid player in IPL history with a Rs. 27 crore deal at the auction.

Abhishek Sharma, Smriti Mandhana Crowned ICC's Players of the Month for September

Indian left-handed batters Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana were adjudged the men's and women's Players of the month for September 2025, for their stellar showings with the bat.
Abhishek Sharma had an outstanding Asia Cup 2025, where he made 314 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 200. Those exploits helped him win the Player of the tournament award at the continental event, where India beat Pakistan by five wickets in the final at Dubai.
Indian women's team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was adjudged the women's Player of the month for September. The 29-year-old made two centuries against Australia in New Chandigarh and New Delhi, respectively.

Olympic Champion Ariarne Titmus Ends Swimming Career

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Ariarne Titmus made the shock decision to end her career at the age of 25. Titmus was on a break from swimming after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but rather than start preparing for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, the Australian swimmer opted to draw curtains on her career, in a move that stunned many. At the Paris Olympics last year, Titmus had defended her 400-meter freestyle title in a race against US great Katie Ledecky and Canada's Summer McIntosh.

Rory McIlroy Receives Hero's Welcome in India

Rory McIlroy landed in India for his first appearance at the DP World India Championship. As part of the tournament from October 16 to 19 at the Delhi Golf Club, this event represents a new era in Indian golf history. This is the richest golf event to be held in the country, with a prize fund of $4 million.
McIlroy's appearance in India marks his first on the professional circuit, a notable milestone in his storied career, which already includes five major championships.

11th Asian Aquatics Championships in Ahmedabad Concluded

India made sporting history by hosting the 11^th Asian Aquatics Championships for the first time in 2025, at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The event marked a significant milestone, being only the second time South Asia has hosted this prestigious aquatics meet. With over 1,100 athletes from 29 countries, the championships brought global attention to India's aquatic potential and organizational capabilities.

India's Mann Sharma Begins Quest for World's First-ever Burpee Marathon

Indian athlete and adventurer Mann Sharma made history as he officially kicked off Mann vs Burpees, the world's first-ever Burpee Marathon at the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium in New Delhi. This World Book of Records attempt will see Mann cover the full marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres entirely through burpee broad jumps over the next ten days (concludes on October 15). The event was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Union Minister for Sports Mansukh Mandaviya.
Organised by Question Associates in collaboration with Fit India and officially recognised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the event is expected to redefine human endurance and resilience. Beyond the physical feat, Mann vs Burpees is a mission to raise funds and awareness for The One Friend NGO, which supports education and empowerment for underprivileged children across India.

Valentin Vacherot created history at the Shanghai Masters by becoming the lowest-ranked player to triumph at an ATP Masters 1000 event and first-ever player from Monaco to win an ATP singles title.
Vacherot rallied from a set down and defeated his cousin, Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, 4-6 6-3 6-3 in the final.

Dragan Stojkovic resigned as Serbia coach following the 1-0 home defeat to Albania in FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying.
The Serbian football federation said that he offered his resignation after the loss in Leskovac. Serbia's Under-21 coach Zoran Mirkovic took interim charge for Group K match away to Andorra ahead of a meeting regarding further changes in the national team set-up.

Algeria Qualifies for the World Cup with Win over Somalia

Algeria added its name to the list of World Cup qualifiers, the fourth African team to book a berth at next year's (2026) finals in North America, after a comfortable 3-0 win over Somalia.
Mohamed Amoura netted twice – taking his goals tally in the qualifying campaign to eight – while captain Riyad Mahrez also scored.
