Sakshi Malik Announces Retirement after Sanjay Singh Becomes WFI Chief

Sakshi Malik announced her retirement from wrestling, after Sanjay Singh was appointed President of the Wrestling Federation of India.
Malik, who spearheaded the wrestlers' protest against Brij Bhushan Singh along with Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat said that she would not compete under the presidency of Sanjay, who belongs to the faction supporting Brij Bhushan.

India's Hardik Singh Clinches Men's FIH Player of the Year 2023

Indian hockey team midfielder, Hardik Singh, clinched the prestigious title of Men's FIH Player of the Year at the FIH Hockey Star Awards 2023. This recognition adds another feather to the cap of the talented player, who played a pivotal role in India's bronze medal victory at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Eight-year-old British Indian Schoolgirl Chess Prodigy Named Europe's Best

An eight-year-old British Indian schoolgirl made chess history after being named the 'super talented' best female player at a European championship.
Bodhana Sivanandan, from Harrow in north-west London, won the European Blitz Chess Championship in Zagreb, Croatia, after a winning streak since she took up chess during the COVID pandemic lockdown.
In the European championship, she went head-to-head with some of the best players in the world and defeated an international master to win her crown.

Soumya Sarkar Breaks Sachin Tendulkar's 14-year-old Record

Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar hit his career-best ODI score of 169 off just 151 deliveries and helped Bangladesh post 291 all out in 49.5 overs, breaking legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's 14-year-old record during the second ODI match against New Zealand in Nelson.
He broke the record for the highest individual score in New Zealand by a sub-continent batsman. The master blaster Sachin Tendulkar scored a record 163 runs in Christchurch 2009 against the Kiwis in their backyard.

Maharashtra Bags Women's and AAI Wins Men's Title Events in Guwahati

In team events of the 75th Inter-State-Inter-Zonal Badminton Championships 2023, Maharashtra bagged the women's and Airport Authority of India (AAI) won the men's title events in Guwahati.
The prestigious national championship was held in Assam after four years. AAI team appeared in both men's and women's team finals but won the title in the men's category defeating Karnataka 3-0.
In the women's team final, Maharashtra dominated AAI 3-0 and won.

Amitabh Bachchan Becomes Owner of Mumbai Team in Indian Street Premier League

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan revealed his ownership of the Mumbai team in the upcoming Indian Street Premier League (ISPL). The ISPL, India's first tennis ball T10 cricket tournament played within a stadium, is set to kick off its inaugural edition from March 2 to March 9, 2024 in Mumbai.
The ISPL introduces a unique and exciting cricketing format, bringing together the thrill of T20 matches and the grassroots essence of tennis ball cricket. The tournament aims to provide a platform for street cricketers to showcase their talent on a professional stage.
The ISPL will feature a total of 19 high-intensity matches during its inaugural edition. The six participating teams are Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and Srinagar. Each team represents a city, providing a diverse and competitive mix of players from various regions.

IPL 2024 Auction: Mitchell Starc Costliest Buy

At a historic IPL 2024 auction, Australia's Mitchell Starc surpassed his compatriot Pat Cummins and became the costliest player in the league's history, bought at Rs. 24.75 crore by the Kolkata Knight Riders, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
The bidding for Starc began with Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians raising their pedals with the speed of light. But they lasted only till the team his price reached Rs. 10 crore from a base price of Rs. 2 crore.
The bidding was then joined by Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders who bid intensely as they had money in their coffers to spend. In the end, at Rs. 24.75 crore, KKR overpowered the GT side and got the Australian for a staggering, unprecedented price tag.

U-19 Asia Cup, Bangladesh Beat UAE to Lift Trophy

Bangladesh defeated UAE by 195 runs and won the Under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai.
Opening the batting, Ashiqur smashed 12 fours and one six in his knock of 129 (149 balls) as Bangladesh posted 282/8 after hosts UAE opted to field.
In reply, UAE surrendered meekly to fold up for 87 in 24.5 overs as Bangladesh clinched the eight-nation tournament with five wins from as many games.
The Under-19 Asia Cup is a cricket tournament organised by the Asian Cricket Council for Under-19 teams from its member nations. It was first held in 1989 in Bangladesh where India won the tournament.

First-ever Khelo India Para Games Conclude

The first-ever Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) concluded in New Delhi with Haryana winning the inaugural title by securing 105 medals including 40 gold, 39 silver, and 26 bronze. KIPG 2023, which began on December 10, witnessed the participation of around 1,450 para-athletes from across the country. Uttar Pradesh came second with 62 medals including 25 gold, 23 silver, and 14 bronze, while Tamil Nadu finished third with 20 gold, eight silver, and 14 bronze medals. Athletes from 32 states and Union Territories participated in the Games.

Vijay Hazare Trophy: Harshal Bowls Haryana to Title against Rajasthan

In a historic turn of events at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, Haryana emerged victorious in the 2023 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and secured their first-ever title with a 30-run triumph over Rajasthan in the summit clash. The victory marked one of the greatest campaigns in Indian domestic cricket history, as Haryana showcased their dominance by remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy, (officially known as the IDFC First Bank Vijay Hazare Trophy for sponsorship reasons), originally known as the Ranji One-Day Trophy, is an annual limited overs cricket domestic competition organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It involves the state and union territory teams which take part in the Ranji Trophy. The tournament began in the 1993–94 season but was played at zonal level only until 2002–03 when it was expanded to become a national competition. In 2007, it was renamed in honour of Vijay Hazare, who had died in December 2004.

Bengaluru Mavericks Crowned Tennis Premier League Season 5 Champions

The final day of the Tennis Premier League (TNPL) season 5 saw teams give it their all on the court as they vied for the coveted trophy. After a few heated contests, it was eventually Bengaluru SG Mavericks, who were crowned champions of Season 5 of the TNPL. The day's first semi-final saw Bengaluru SG Mavericks go head-to-head with Delhi Binny's Brigade. Arina Rodionova of Bengaluru SG Mavericks beat Sahaja Yamalapalli of Delhi Binny's Brigade in a game that ended 11-9.

Khelo India Games to be Held in Tamil Nadu in January 2024

Khelo India Games will be held in Tamil Nadu in January next year (2024). The State Government said that the games will be held in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy from January 19 to 31, 2024.
More than 5,500 sports persons and over 1,600 coaches are expected to participate in the event. More than 1000 referees and 1200 volunteers will be part of the sporting event in which 27 types of sport will be played. For the first time, squash has been included in Khelo India Games.

Aryna Sabalenka, Novak Djokovic Named as 2023 ITF World Champions

Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka were honoured by the International Tennis Federation as the 2023 ITF World Champions. The pair was the only singles players who managed to reach at least the semi-finals of all four Grand Slam events this year (2023).
This is Djokovic's eighth ITF World Champion award, which is also a record. He finished the year (2023) as ATP No. 1 for a record-extending eighth time, where he bagged the Australian Open, French Open and US Open, which also took his majors' total to a men's leading 24. He was also runners-up at the Wimbledon and led the men's tour with seven titles.
This is the first time Sabalenka received this honour. She won the Australian Open this year (2023), which was also her first Grand Slam title. She was runners-up at the US Open, and also made it to the semi-finals of the French Open and Wimbledon. She also made her debut at No. 1 in the WTA rankings in September 2023 and finished the year at No. 2, behind Iga Swiatek.
