TDRS-M Satellite Launched

The US space agency NASA launched the latest Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-M) in a series of satellites to ensure the astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) can communicate with Earth.

The satellite will facilitate space-to-ground communication for NASA's low-Earth orbit operations, ensuring scientists, engineers and control room staff can readily access data for missions like the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station.

TDRS-M is the last of 13 such satellites that have been launched since 1983.

Cargo Ship Arrives at ISS

SpaceX's unmanned Dragon cargo ship arrived at the International Space Station (ISS), carrying the first super-computer to space.
It is the 12th mission for SpaceX under a $1.6 billion contract with NASA.
Researchers want to see if the computer can survive the harsh conditions of space, and whether it could one day help astronauts navigate long missions in deep space, whether around the Moon or to Mars.

Mobile Tower on Moon

A space startup from Germany is aiming to set up a mobile tower on Moon and has already started to work for it.
Scientists are working towards deploying the same cellular technology we use on earth on the lunar surface, and transmit data back to the earth using Audi lunar quattro rovers.
In order to make it practically possible, the German company has secured a spot on a shared launch of a Falcon 9 – the reusable rockets belonging to Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

Cassini's Grand Finale

NASA's Cassini mission which began in 1997 is currently in its grand finale phase. At present, the spacecraft is performing flybys of the planet Saturn, making its closest approaches to the rings.
Cassini will end its journey in September this year by performing a death plunge into the ringed planet.

Black Holes in Milky Way

Black holes and their behaviour have long since been no less than an enigma for scientists to decipher.
In a new development, scientists have said that the Milky Way may be home to as many as 100 million black holes.

Four Earth-sized Planets Discovered

TRAPPIST-1 – scientists have discovered four Earth-sized planets orbiting the nearest Sun-like star. They are approximately 12 light-years away.
Two of the planets are super-Earths located in the habitable zone of the star.
The planets have masses as low as 1.7 Earth mass, making them among the smallest planets ever detected around nearby Sun-like stars.
