India Pavilion among the Top Pavilions at World Expo Osaka

At the ongoing World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, the India Pavilion, titled 'Bharat Mandap,' secured a place among the top five most admired pavilions, according to a review shared by Mr. Yamamoto-san, Deputy Pavilion Director and representative of the Japan Travel Bureau (JTB). Ranked alongside global heavyweights such as the United States, Italy, France, and Japan, the India Pavilion's popularity is based on feedback from Expo officials, Japanese citizens, and online engagement on social media platforms.

Jitendra Singh Leads High-level Indian Delegation at the International Meet on Oceans

Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh is leading a high-level Indian delegation at the International Meet on Oceans being held from June 9 to 13 in Nice, France. The high-level international gathering brings together leaders, scientists, policymakers, and civil society actors from across the globe to discuss sustainable ocean governance and concrete actions for the health of the world's oceans.
The third edition of the UN Ocean Conference, co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, focuses on key themes such as restoring marine ecosystems, reducing marine pollution, promoting ocean-based scientific cooperation, and mobilising resources for the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas, and marine resources, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 14. The conference features 'Ocean Action Panels' involving governments, UN bodies, researchers, industry leaders, and NGOs to forge partnerships and propose practical, scalable solutions.

India Calls for Global Action on Extreme Heat Risk at UNDRR Session in Geneva

Calling extreme heat a 'global crisis,' Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P. K. Mishra urged coordinated international action during a keynote address at the Special Session on Extreme Heat Risk Governance hosted by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva.
Mishra's remarks echoed the urgency expressed by the UN Secretary-General, highlighting that rising temperatures now pose a systemic threat to public health, economic stability, and ecological resilience worldwide.

India Assumes Chair of 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum

The 11^th BRICS Parliamentary Forum concluded in Brasilia, Brazil, with participating parliaments from all 10 BRICS member countries unanimously condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. The forum also saw India assume the chairmanship of the 12^th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, to be hosted next year (2026).
The expanded BRICS parliamentary forum now includes India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, the UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia.

Five Countries Elected to UN Security Council for 2026/27

The United Nations General Assembly elected Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia, and Liberia to the 15-member U.N. Security Council for two-year terms starting on January 1, 2026.
The Security Council is the only U.N. body that can make legally binding decisions such as imposing sanctions and authorizing use of force. It has five permanent veto-wielding members: Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
The remaining 10 members are elected, with five new members joining every year. Bahrain, Colombia, the DRC, Latvia, and Liberia - who were all elected in uncontested slates - will replace Algeria, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Guyana and Slovenia.
Latvia was elected to the United Nations Security Council for the first time.

Nicaragua Becomes 101st WTO Member to Accept Fisheries Subsidies Agreement

Nicaragua became the 101^st member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to formally accept the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, marking a significant step toward global efforts to combat harmful fishing practices and restore marine biodiversity. The instrument of acceptance was handed over to WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala by Nicaragua's Ambassador Rosalía Bohorquez Palacios, bringing the WTO just 10 acceptances away from the threshold required for the agreement's entry into force.
The agreement was adopted at the 12^th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12) in Geneva in June 2022.

Trump Bans Citizens of 12 Countries from Entering the US

The Trump administration signed a suspending travel to the US for citizens from 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Citing national security interests, the proclamation states that the identified countries lack sufficient vetting and screening processes needed to detect foreign nationals who may pose safety or terrorism threats to the U.S.
The proclamation also partially restricted entrance for nationals of seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
