UN Alliance of Civilizations 10th Global Forum

  • The 10th Global Forum of the United Nation Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in Cascais, Portugal convened members of the UNAOC Group of Friends, political leaders, representatives of international and regional organizations, religious leaders and faith actors, the private sector, civil society, academia, youth, arts and media, as well as donor agencies and foundations, who addressed the global issues pertinent to peace and security and called for restoring trust and for uniting in peace. In Cascais, participants had an opportunity to reflect on the twenty years of the 'Alliance of Civilizations' initiative, announced by Spain at the 59th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2004, and how UNAOC grew into a vibrant and well-established United Nations entity.
  • The UNAOC was established in 2005, with Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, proposing it, along with then-Spanish Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
  • It was later adopted as a UN initiative by the UN Secretary-General.
  • The UNAOC was founded in response to mutual suspicion, fear and polarisation between Muslim countries and Western societies, with the understanding that only a broad coalition could prevent the situation from deteriorating further, which had begun to threaten international stability.

India Reaffirms its Commitment to Inclusive Growth and Intellectual Property Protection

  • After nearly two decades of negotiations, the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) adopted the landmark Design Law Treaty (DLT). By signing the Final Act of the Riyadh Design Law Treaty, India builds on its progress and reaffirms its commitment to fostering inclusive growth and ensuring equitable access to intellectual property protection.
  • The treaty seeks to harmonize the procedural frameworks for industrial design protection, improving the efficiency and accessibility of registration processes across multiple jurisdictions. By standardizing procedural requirements, the DLT reduces administrative burdens, thereby promoting global creativity in design. Its goal is to ensure that the benefits of streamlined design protection are accessible to all stakeholders, with particular emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, and independent designers.

India-EFTA Trade Deal: $100 Billion Investment & Boost to Exports

  • India signed a historic Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) with four European countries, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein, forming the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). This agreement is expected to provide India access to 99.6% of EFTA's market, generating $100 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) and creating 1 million direct jobs over the next 15 years. With strong commitments from both sides, the deal aims to enhance India's global market position and reinforce initiatives like "Make in India" and "Atmanirbhar Bharat."
  • The pact is set to create 1 million direct jobs in India, supporting its young workforce. This aligns with India's projected economic rise, with expectations to become the third-largest economy in the world in the next 3-4 years. The agreement also focuses on promoting sectors like IT, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, renewable energy, and banking.
  • TEPA will expand India's service exports, particularly in IT, business, and educational services, by improving access to EFTA countries. Additionally, the deal facilitates technological collaboration, offering India access to advanced technologies in precision engineering, health sciences, and renewable energy.

NorthEast United FC Clinches Governor's Gold Cup Victory

  • NorthEast United FC emerged victorious in the 40th All India Governor's Gold Cup, defeating Gangtok Himalayan SC in a dramatic penalty shootout. The tournament was held in Sikkim. The final ended 1-1 after regular time, leading to a tense shootout, where NorthEast United triumphed 4-3.
  • Sikkim's Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, and Governor Om Prakash Mathur attended the final and witnessed the exciting contest.
  • The tournament featured sixteen teams, including Indian Super League and I-League academies, I-League 2, State leagues and international invitees from Bhutan, Malaysia, Nepal and UAE.

13-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes History as IPL's Youngest Signing

  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old cricketer from Bihar, made history by becoming the youngest player ever to be signed at an IPL auction. On Day 2 of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction in Jeddah, the Rajasthan Royals acquired Suryavanshi for a whopping Rs. 1.10 crore, defeating the Delhi Capitals in a heated bidding war. This incredible achievement has placed Suryavanshi firmly in the spotlight as a rising star in Indian cricket.
  • In January 2023, Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Mumbai, held in Patna. At just 12 years and 284 days, he became the youngest Indian to debut in first-class cricket since 1986, and the second-youngest ever to play a Ranji Trophy game for Bihar.

IPL 2025 Most Expensive Players

  • Rishabh Pant became the most expensive buy in the history of the Indian Premier League 2025 with a Rs. 27 crore winning bid from Lucknow Super Giants.
  • Shreyas Iyer emerged as second most expensive player as Punjab Kings (PBKS) roped in the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain for a whopping price of Rs. 26.75 crore.
  • For the 2025 IPL season, the BCCI raised the lowest base price for players to Rs. 30 lakh, up by Rs. 10 lakh from last year.

Second Round of Tiprasa Accord Discussions on December 3

  • Three months after the initial round of discussions regarding the implementation of the tripartite Tiprasa accord, TIPRA Motha announced that the second round of talks is scheduled for December 3.
  • The Tiprasa accord was signed by the ruling alliance partner TIPRA Motha, the Centre, and the state government of Tripura to find an honourable solution for the issues faced by the state's tribal population.

Union Cabinet Approves Launch of National Mission on Natural Farming

  • The Union Cabinet approved the launch of the National Mission on Natural Farming, with a total outlay of Rs. 2481 crore as a standalone Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
  • The mission will promote natural farming in a mission mode across the country. The scheme has a total outlay of Rs. 2481 crore (Government of India share - Rs. 1584 crore; State share - Rs. 897 crore ($106 million) till the 15th Finance Commission (2025-26).
  • The Mission is designed to support farmers to reduce the input cost of cultivation and their dependency on externally purchased inputs. Natural farming will build and maintain healthy soil ecosystems, promote biodiversity and encourage diverse cropping systems to enhance resilience as suitable to the local agroecology are the benefits of natural farming.

Kiran Choudhry Picked for RS Vice-Chiefs' Panel

  • Senior Haryana leader Kiran Choudhry, who switched camps from the Congress to the BJP, was included in the prestigious panel of vice-chairpersons of the Rajya Sabha.
  • Vice-President (V-P) and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the reconstituted panel of vice-chairpersons for the 266th session of the Rajya Sabha, naming Choudhry and Congress leader Ajay Maken among the new members.
  • The V-P retained S. Phangnon Konyak (first woman to be elected member of the Rajya Sabha from Nagaland in April 2022) and renowned athlete PT Usha.

  • The troops demonstrated their combat readiness through live firing drills, tactical movements and air support missions, incorporating cutting-edge technology such as swarm drones, loiter munition systems, quadcopters and logistic drones.

  • Essar Group co-founder Shashi Ruia died at the age of 80.
  • Shashi, a first-generation entrepreneur industrialist, started his career in 1965 under the guidance of his father Nand Kishore Ruia.
  • He, along with his brother Ravi, laid the foundation of Essar in 1969 by constructing an outer breakwater at Chennai Port. The group expanded into various sectors, including steel, oil refining, exploration and production, telecom, power, and construction.

  • Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas, is celebrated every year on November 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution shaping the democratic framework of the nation. Under the leadership of B. R. Ambedkar, the Constituent Assembly finalised the Constitution after three years in 1949. The Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950, marking the birth anniversary of the Indian Republic.
