New Zealand Government Announces Scholarship with IIT Delhi, Signs Several New MoUs

  • In a move to strengthen educational ties, New Zealand's Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, announced a NZ$260,000 scholarship package under the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) 2025. This initiative aims to support Indian students pursuing higher education in New Zealand.
  • Expanding on collaborative efforts, a Virtual Internship Programme has been introduced, offering 30 IIT Delhi students the chance to intern remotely with New Zealand companies. This programme provides practical industry experience and insights into New Zealand's innovative work culture.
  • Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between institutes of India and New Zealand to further academic collaboration:

ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan Launches Thermal Research Centre at IIT Madras

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has taken a significant step toward advancing space technology with the launch of the Shri S. Ramakrishnan Centre of Excellence in Fluid and Thermal Science Research at IIT Madras. Inaugurated by ISRO Chairman V Narayanan, this new research facility aims to tackle complex thermal challenges in space applications. The centre will focus on heat dissipation in satellites and launch vehicles, developing advanced cooling solutions, and fostering industry-academia collaborations. This initiative is expected to enhance India's self-reliance in space technologies and strengthen research capabilities for future deep-space missions.

ISM Dhanbad Best in Country, in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

  • The Indian School of Mines (ISM) University, Dhanbad bagged the top position in India in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2025. As many as 79 Indian institutes feature in the 15th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
  • Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad was ranked 20th globally for Engineering – Mineral and Mining, making it the country's highest-performing subject area, followed by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) in the Engineering and Technology subject and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (deemed to be university) in Dentistry subject at 26th rank.

QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025: Harvard tops in 4 Areas of Study

  • Harvard University, renowned for its academic excellence, bagged the top spot in as many as four areas of study in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 released on March 12, 2025.
  • The 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject features 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas. Besides, a total of 171 institutions were included this year.
  • In Arts & Humanities the top five universities were Harvard University (Rank 1), University of Oxford (Rank 2), University of Cambridge (Rank 3), Stanford University (Rank 4), and University of California, Berkeley (UCB) (Rank 5).
  • In Engineering and Technology the top 5 universities were Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Rank 1), University of Oxford (Rank 2), Stanford University (Rank 3), University of Cambridge (Rank 4), and ETH Zurich (Rank 5).
  • Harvard University also bagged the first rank in Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & Management.

CCRH Signs MoU to Promote Research in Homoeopathy

  • The Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) and Adamas University, Kolkata, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance academic and research collaboration in homoeopathy. This agreement aims to advance scientific research, knowledge exchange, and interdisciplinary studies in alternative medicine. The Ministry of Ayush highlighted that this partnership will contribute to the broader acceptance and integration of homoeopathy in mainstream healthcare.
  • The MoU was signed by Subhash Kaushik (Director General, CCRH) and Suranjan Das (Vice-Chancellor, Adamas University).

SEBI Introduces Certification Courses on Anti-Money Laundering, Financing Terrorism

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) introduced two new courses on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) for the market intermediaries. The course is introduced to create a minimum knowledge benchmark for employees and their associated persons about concepts of AML and CFT and related aspects, provisions of the PMLA & PML rules, and scheduled offences under the SEBI Act and the Companies Act.
  • To enhance the capital market, the SEBI has been organising outreach programs focused on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) provisions, aimed at benefiting securities market intermediaries.
  • As part of this effort, the course titled "AML and CFT Provisions in Securities Market Certification Examination" has been developed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in collaboration with the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM).
