Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to expel the U.S., German and eight other Western Ambassadors after they issued a rare joint statement in support of a jailed civil society leader.
Parisian-born philanthropist and activist Osman Kavala, was in jail without a conviction since 2017, becoming a symbol of what critics see as Mr. Erdogan's growing intolerance of dissent.
The 10 Ambassadors issued a highly unusual joint statement on their Turkish social media accounts — saying Mr. Kavala's continued detention "cast a shadow" over Turkey.
China Passes New Land Border Law amid Military Standoff with India
Asserting that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China is "sacred and inviolable", the country's national legislature has adopted a new law on the protection and exploitation of the land border areas, which could have a bearing on Beijing's border dispute with India.
Members of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) approved the law at the closing meeting of a legislative session.
The law, which becomes operational from January 1 next year, stipulates that "the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People's Republic of China are sacred and inviolable.

As per the report, the state shall take measures to safeguard territorial integrity and land boundaries and guard against and combat any act that undermines territorial sovereignty and land boundaries.

The QR Code Sound Box is a small and portable speaker which comes with a dedicated SIM slot for data connectivity which gives voice notification. The new sound box is available in five languages including Hindi, English, Punjabi, Gujarati and Marathi.
Ramnath Krishnan is MD and Group CEO of ICRA
The board of ICRA appointed Ramnath Krishnan as the company's Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer.
Krishnan was earlier President – Ratings and Chief Rating Officer at ICRA. He joined the credit rating agency in 2020.
Krishnan succeeded N. Sivaraman, who stepped down from the position of MD & CEO for personal reasons.

Rajasthan Revenue Minister Harish Chaudhary is the Congress in-charge of poll-bound Punjab replacing veteran Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat. The development is not sudden as Harish Chaudhary's name was being speculated as a replacement for Harish Rawat for some time amid the Congress's trouble in Punjab.
Harish Rawat is being relieved from his current responsibility as AICC General Secretary in-charge of Punjab and Chandigarh.

India's First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Vikrant Begins Second Phase of Sea Trials
India's first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC) Vikrant set sail for the second sea trials, ahead of its planned induction into the Indian Navy by August next year.
The 40,000-tonne aircraft carrier, the largest and most complex warship to be built in India, successfully completed a five-day maiden sea voyage in August.
Following the first sea trials, the Navy had said that the performance of key systems of the warship was found to be satisfactory.
The warship has been built at a cost of around Rs 23,000 crore and its construction propelled India into a select group of countries having capabilities to build state-of-the-art aircraft carriers.
Defence Ministry Clears Rs. 423-crore Deal for US Torpedoes
The Navy will strengthen its anti-submarine capability with the Defence Ministry signing a contract with the US Government for the procurement of MK 54 Torpedo and expendable (chaff and flares) at a cost of Rs. 423 crore.
In April, the US Department of State had approved this Foreign Military Sale to India at an estimated cost of $63 million. The principal contractor for the first deal is Raytheon Integrated Defense System.
The Navy will further augment its capabilities with another deal in the pipeline. This entails the acquisition of 10 AGM-84L Harpoon Block II air-launched missiles and related equipment at an estimated cost of $92 million. Boeing is the principal contractor for the equipment in the Harpoon deal.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested the High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) - ABHYAS, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Bay of Bengal in Odisha. The target aircraft is equipped with a MEMS-based Inertial Navigation System (INS) for navigation along with the Flight Control Computer (FCC) for guidance and control.
ABHYAS is designed & developed by DRDO laboratory, Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru, for the Indian Armed Forces. The air vehicle ABHYAS can be used as an aerial target for the evaluation of various missile systems.
The vehicle is programmed for fully autonomous flight. The check-out of air vehicles is done using a laptop-based Ground Control Station (GCS).
Fourth General Assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA)
Fourth general assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) was held virtually in October 2021.
Assembly was presided by Union Minister of Power, New & Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh and President of ISA Assembly.
108 countries participated in the ISA Assembly, including 34 observer & prospective countries and 74 Member Countries.
It was also participated by 23 Partner Organizations and 33 Special Invitee Organisations.
During the meeting countries discussed that how MSME clusters can replace diesel gensets with hydrogen.
Discussion was focused on how ISA's waste management programme will be significant for the growing volume of waste & toxic materials, high cost of waste treatment and lack of waste specific legislation.
They also discussed an update on One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative. This concept of a single global grid for solar was proposed at First Assembly of the ISA in 2018.
During the assembly, countries launched two new programmes namely- Management of Solar PV panels & battery usage waste and Solar Hydrogen programme.

Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, announced a free education scheme in state, to boost the level of education in the state.
Scheme has been announced to those whose verified family income is lower than Rs. 1.80 lakh per annum.
This announcement was made by CM, while he was interacting with students who have cracked civil services exam-2020 and JEE advance exam-2021, during a felicitation programme held at Panchkula.
Announcement was made under Haryana's 'Super 100 Programme'.

Life Expectancy in India Drops by 2 Years due to Covid
According to the scientists from a city-based International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS), Covid-19 pandemic has affected the lives of people across the world.
As per scientists, in India, covid-19 pandemic resulted in a drop in life expectancy by almost two years.
Report points out a drop in life expectancy at birth in men as well as women.
In the year 2019, life expectancy at birth was 69.5 years for men while 72 years for women. This is decreased to 67.5 years for men and 69.8 years for women in the year 2020.
The study also included a factor term called 'length of life inequality'.
As per study, Covid-19 claimed maximum lives of men among the people aged 39-69.
In the year 2020, the age group 35-79 observed excess deaths due to covid-19 as compared to normal year.
West Bengal Adopts 3-tier Model of Skilling to Strengthen Technical Education
With a focus on experience-based education and hands-on training, the West Bengal government has adopted a three-tier model of skilling with vocational training centres at panchayats, ITI institutes at blocks and a polytechnic college at every sub-division of the state.
Technical Education and Skill Development Minister Humayun Kabir said his department is in the process of setting up at least one polytechnic institute in every sub-division of the state.
The government has identified 495 vocational training centres for upgrading and trying to converge technical education with the labour department to identify district-wise skill gaps.
Tamil Movie "Koozhangal" is India's Official Entry for 94th Academy Awards
The movie follows an alcoholic abusive husband who, after his long-suffering wife runs off, sets out with his young son to find her and bring her back.
Tamil movie Koozhangal (Pebbles), directed by filmmaker Vinothraj PS, has been selected as India's official entry for the 94th Academy Awards.
It stars newcomers – Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan – and is produced by Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara.
India's official entry for Oscars this year 'Koozhangal' was picked by a 15-member jury, headed by filmmaker Shaji N Karun, in a unanimous decision.
