HP Police Awarded with 'President's Colour

  • Himachal Pradesh Police has conducted the 'President's Colour Award' ceremony at Shimla's historic Ridge Ground. The Governor bestowed the 'President's Color Award' to the State Police on this occasion. Director-General of Police Sanjay Kundu received the award on the behalf of state police. The Chief Guest was Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, while Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was also there as a special guest. Himachal Pradesh Police is India's eighth state police force to receive this honour.
  • 'President Colour' is a special achievement, demonstrating that the state police ranks highly in the service of humanity, as well as performance, professionalism, integrity, human rights protection, and other factors.

Navajeevan Blind Relief Centre founder Bags National Award

  • K. Sridhar Acharya, founder president of Navajeevan Blind Relief Centre, Tirupati, received the 'National award for the empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan)' for the year 2020 from President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi.
  • The award comes in recognition of Mr. Acharya's 44 years of selfless service to the cause of the visually-challenged people.
  • Started as Navajeevan Blind Relief Centre, it expanded into several charitable institutions like Navajeevan eye hospital, orphan home, home for senior citizens, Veda Patashala, Goshala, that also started handling self employment schemes and hunger elimination programmes under 'Navajeevan Annalakshmi Pathakam' in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.

Nizamuddin Basti Project Gets Two UNESCO Heritage Awards

  • The UNESCO presented two Heritage Awards to the Nizamuddin Basti Project. The project was awarded for its conservation efforts. It was awarded with the Special Recognition for Sustainable Award and Award of Excellence.
  • The project restored more than 20 historic monuments located around 14th century Sufi Saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya.
  • The Nizamuddin Basti Project is an Urban Renewal Project. It successfully unified the segregated zones of the seven-century old settlement of the Nizamuddin Basti and its surrounding 70 acres.
  • It integrated socio – economic development, conservation and environmental development objectives in these areas.
  • It unified three major sites namely Sundar Nursery, Nizamuddin Basti and Humayun Tomb.

Infosys Prize 2021

  • Three of six winners of the Infosys Prize 2021 announced by the Infosys Science Foundation are based in Bengaluru. The prizes were awarded to the winners for their contributions to science and research in six fields - Engineering and Computer Science, Humanities, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
  • Chandrasekhar Nair, CTO of Molbio Diagnostics in Bengaluru; Mahesh Sankaran from the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bengaluru; and Neeraj Kayal of Microsoft Research lab, Bengaluru were among the winners.
  • The award comprises a pure gold medal, a citation, and a prize-purse of USD 100,000, tax-free in India.

Anju Bobby George Wins 'Woman of Year Award' from World Athletics

  • Legendary Indian athlete Anju Bobby George was bestowed with the Woman of the Year Award by World Athletics for grooming talent in the country and for her advocacy of gender equality. Anju is the only Indian to have won a medal in the World Championships with a long jump bronze in the 2003 edition.
  • The former international long jump star from India is still actively involved in the sport. In 2016 she opened a training academy for young girls, which has already helped to produce a world U20 medallist.

International Press Institute Honours for NDTV, The Week Teams

  • The International Press Institute (IPI) India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2021 was awarded jointly to Sreenivasan Jain and Mariyam Alavi of NDTV, and Lakshmi Subramanian and Bhanu Prakash Chandra of "The Week". Meanwhile, the IPI India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2020 was awarded to Ritika Chopra of The Indian Express.
  • The award comes with a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh, a trophy and a citation. The Vienna-based International Press Institute (IPI) is a global organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of press freedom and the improvement of journalism practices.

S. K. Sohan Roy 1st Indian to be Honoured with Knighthood of Parte Guelfa

  • S. K. Sohan Roy from Kerala, CEO, and founder of Aries Group of Companies became the first Indian to be honoured with the Knighthood of Parte Guelfa for his humanitarian and Environmental protection efforts in business and movies. The honorary title of "Knight of Parte Guelfa" has been conferred upon him during the conferring ceremony organized during the Investitures of Parte Guelfa of Annus Domini 2021 and was held at the Basilica of Santa Croce and the Palagio di Parte Guelfa in Florence, Italy.
  • Order of the Guelph Part or Ordo Parte Guelfae which was initially known as Societas Partis Ecclesiae is an order of pontifical foundation established by Pope Clement IV in 1266. The Guelph part is concerned with environmental protection and the knighthood is recognised as the protector of the World Environment.
