MORE STORIES THIS MONTH

Ear scan to rule out hidden earpieces: students briefly show each ear to the phone camera, confirming they aren't wearing earbuds, wireless receivers, or other audio devices during the test. This closes a gap traditional exams have struggled with: modern micro earpieces can be nearly invisible to the human eye, so this scan gives proctors a reliable way to verify a student is testing on their own

Works alongside the two-camera system: the laptop webcam watches the test taker, while the phone (as a secondary camera) gives proctors a wider view of the room, screen, and keyboard — two angles, one verified environment

Built to protect honest test takers: this isn't just about catching misconduct; it's about making sure every legitimate score is trusted and certified without delays or disputes

Why this matters for your students: Every new security layer DET adds: room scans, ear scans, dual cameras, makes the test score more secure. That's a stronger pitch for your students, not a bigger hurdle: a few extra minutes of setup buys them a credential institutions trust.

Study Abroad Updates

Australia tightens onshore student visa rules

Australia has introduced stricter Student visa (subclass 500) and Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) rules, effective 2 October 2026. Most temporary visa holders, including visitors, can no longer apply for these visas while in Australia, subject to specified exemptions. New restrictions also limit the inclusion of partners and dependent children in student visa applications and generally prevent family members from joining later.

Counsellors should review students' existing visa status, eligibility for exemptions and family arrangements before recommending application pathways.

Canada revises Express Entry points for skilled immigrants

Canada has announced changes to its Express Entry selection system, effective 3 November 2026, giving greater weight to eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying job offers in high-wage occupations. The revised system also removes the Labour Market Impact Assessment requirement for qualifying job offers.

UK eases entry rules for Erasmus+ participants

The UK has expanded permitted activities under its Visitor route for eligible Erasmus+ participants, allowing certain short-term study, training, job-shadowing and mobility activities without institutional sponsorship. The changes, effective 8 October 2026, simplify access to approved programmes, although applicants must still meet relevant immigration requirements. Indian nationals generally continue to require a visa before travelling.

Counsellors should verify programme eligibility and the appropriate visa route before advising students planning Erasmus+ mobility.
