Canada Hikes GIC Requirement to CAD 23,448

Effective September 1, 2026, the financial requirements for new study permit applicants towards living expenses has been increased from CAD 22,895 to CAD 23,448.

Note: Quebec has a separate financial requirement of CAD 24,617.

US Caps F-1 Student Stay at Four Years From 15 September

The US is officially ending the traditional Duration of Status framework for international students. Effective September 15, 2026, a new rule will grant F-1 students a fixed maximum stay of four years, subject to strict extension procedures. Counselors must proactively guide students toward timely program completion and prepare them for the new extension protocols to avoid compliance risks.

New Zealand makes Pathway Student Visas more flexible

New Zealand is opening new doors for international learners by significantly expanding its Pathway Student Visa options. The updated policy creates smoother transitions for secondary school students into lower-level programmes and increases the English-language study allowance from 20 to 30 weeks.
