Manipur Celebrates Mera Hou Chongba, Symbol of Hill-Valley Unity

  • Observed on the 15th lunar day of the Mera month in the traditional Meitei calendar, this annual event is a showcase of communal harmony, indigenous identity, and cultural togetherness. This year (2025), tribal village chiefs from the hill districts gathered at the Manipur Royal Palace (Sana Konung) in Imphal, where they were ceremoniously received by Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, the titular King of Manipur and a Rajya Sabha MP.

Woman Appointed Archbishop of Canterbury in Historic First

  • For the first time in the Church of England's 491-year history, a woman has been appointed to lead it.
  • Downing Street announced that Bishop of London Dame Sarah Mullally, 63, who became a Christian aged 16, would be the successor to Justin Welby who resigned in Jan over his handling of a child sex abuse scandal.
  • Currently known as the Archbishop of Canterbury-designate, she will legally become the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury at her confirmation of election at St Paul's Cathedral in Jan 2026, with a service of installation taking place at Canterbury Cathedral in March 2026.
  • Mullally has been Bishop of London since 2018, the first woman appointed to that role too. Prior to her ordination in 2001, she was chief nursing officer for England — the youngest person ever to be appointed to that role at the age of 37 — having previously specialised as a cancer nurse.

6th Edition of Nadi Utsav Begins in Delhi, Union Minister C R Patil Emphasizes River Conservation

  • Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, under the Ministry of Culture, in September 2025, organised the sixth edition of Nadi Utsav in Delhi. The three-day event highlighted rivers as vital lifelines and cultural reservoirs.
  • Delivering the inaugural address, Union Minister for Jal Shakti C R Patil said that it is the collective responsibility of the citizens to protect and conserve the rivers. He said that the Namami Gange project highlights the need to maintain cleanliness, avoid encroachment and take steps to avoid polluting the country's sacred rivers, as these carry religious and cultural importance.

India Hosts Lord Buddha's Sacred Relics Exhibition in Russia

  • In a landmark initiative, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is organising an international exhibition of Lord Buddha's sacred relics in Kalmykia, Russia, from September 24 to October 1, 2025.
  • The sacred relics, discovered at Piprahwa in Kapilvastu, Uttar Pradesh, hold immense historical, archaeological, and spiritual significance for the global Buddhist community.
  • Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is leading the official delegation carrying the relics to Russia.
  • The exhibition represents India's soft power and cultural diplomacy, highlighting Buddha's timeless message of peace, compassion, and non-violence. Similar exhibitions in Thailand and Vietnam receive overwhelming global response, enhancing India's cultural stature.
