PM Modi Launches Global M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace
In a tribute to the legacy of Professor M. S. Swaminathan, the Father of India's Green Revolution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a global award in his name, the M. S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace, aimed at recognising path breaking contributions to food security and sustainable agriculture across the developing world.
The announcement was made during the M. S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in Delhi, where PM Modi also released a centenary memorial stamp to commemorate Swaminathan's life and contributions.
The first recipient of the newly instituted award is Dr. Arenare, a Nigerian scientist honoured for his transformative work in reducing hunger in Nigeria.

Pariksha Pe Charcha sets Guinness World Record
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special programme Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) 2025 has set a new Guinness World Record for getting the most number of people to register on a citizen platform in one month. Over 3.53 crore people signed up on MyGov, showing how more and more people in India are taking part in digital public programmes.
The Guinness certificate was officially given in Delhi by Rishi Nath from Guinness World Records. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, MoS Jitin Prasada, Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar, and MyGov CEO Nand Kumarum were present.

They are awarded annually based on objective performance parameters such as debates, private members' bills, questions raised, and committee participation. Over time, the awards have become a benchmark for evaluating legislative productivity and accountability.
Geetanjali Shree Wins PEN Translates Award for 'Once Elephants Lived Here'
Renowned Hindi author Geetanjali Shree, celebrated for her International Booker Prize-winning novel Tomb of Sand, once again captured global literary attention. Her latest work, 'Once Elephants Lived Here', translated into English by Daisy Rockwell, was awarded the PEN Translates Award 2025 by English PEN, a UK-based human rights and literary organisation. This achievement is not only a personal milestone for the author but also a proud moment for Indian literature, especially for works in regional languages.
The PEN Translates Award, instituted by English PEN, aims to support the translation of outstanding works of literature into English, making global voices more accessible. The award promotes diversity by supporting translations from a wide range of languages and regions. For the 2025 edition, 14 books in 13 languages from 11 regions were selected.
