Centre Notifies Appointment of 24 Judicial and Technical NCLT Members

  • The Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs notified the appointment of 24 members to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), bolstering the tribunal's capacity to handle corporate disputes and insolvency cases.
  • The appointments, announced, include 11 Judicial Members and 13 Technical Members, who will serve at the NCLT's Principal Bench in New Delhi. According to the notification, the appointees will hold their positions for five years from the date of assuming charge or until they reach the age of 65, whichever comes first.

Judicial officer Ashish Naithani Appointed Uttarakhand High Court Judge

  • The Central government cleared appointment of judicial officer Ashish Naithani as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.
  • The Supreme Court Collegium had in December, 2024 recommended name of Naithani to be appointed as a judge.
  • The Uttarakhand High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 11 judges, is currently functioning with 6 judges, leaving 5 vacancies.

Centre Appoints Justice Mayank Kumar Jain as Judicial Member of SAT

  • The Central government notified the appointment of former Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Mayank Kumar Jain as the second judicial member of Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT).
  • Established under the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992 (SEBI Act), the SAT serves as an appellate authority for orders passed by SEBI. This includes decisions related to insider trading, market manipulation, violations of securities market regulations and other matters within SEBI's purview.
  • In addition to hearing appeals against SEBI orders, the SAT also has jurisdiction over appeals against orders passed by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
