DNA Pioneer James Watson Passes Away

Nobel Prize-winning American scientist James Watson, one of the co-discoverers of the structure of DNA, died aged 97.
In 1962, he shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Crick and Wilkins for the DNA's double helix structure discovery.

Manika Vishwakarma Representing India at the global Miss Universe 2025 Pageant

Manika Vishwakarma, a 22-year-old from Rajasthan is representing India at the global Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand. She earned the coveted Miss Universe India 2025 crown in August after an impressive competition and now carries the hopes of a billion people on the international stage.
The 74th Miss Universe competition will take place on November 21, 2025, at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Thailand. The current titleholder, Victoria Theilvig from Denmark, will pass her crown to the next Miss Universe, and Manika is among the top contenders aiming for the global title.

Veteran Singer-Actor Sulakshana Pandit Passes Away

Sulakshana Pandit, a celebrated name in Indian cinema known for her dual contributions as a playback singer and actress, passed away at the age of 71. Her death marks the end of a remarkable era in Bollywood, particularly the vibrant 1970s and 80s, when her voice and screen presence were deeply cherished by audiences.
Sulakshana began her musical journey at the tender age of nine and made her playback singing debut in 1967. She rose to prominence with her soulful number Tu Hi Sagar Hai Tu Hi Kinara from Sankalp (1975), which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer.

Gopichand Hinduja, one of India's most respected businessmen and the Chairman of the global conglomerate Hinduja Group, passed away at the age of 85. Hinduja's passing signifies not only the end of an era in business leadership but also the loss of a visionary who bridged India and the United Kingdom through enterprise and community service.
He served as the Chairman of Hinduja Automotive Ltd. and later took over as the Chairman of the Hinduja Group in 2023, following the passing of his brother, Srichand Hinduja.

North Korea's Former Head of State Kim Yong Nam Dies

Kim Yong Nam, North Korea's former ceremonial head of state and one of the longest-serving officials of the Kim dynasty, passed away at the age of 97. Known for his rigid loyalty to the regime and decades of high-level political service, Kim's death marks the end of an era in North Korean bureaucracy.
Kim Yong Nam's career spanned over seven decades, making him one of the most enduring figures in the North Korean political system.
He served as the President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly from 1998 to April 2019, a role that made him North Korea's ceremonial head of state—though real power always rested with the ruling Kim family.

First Keralite to Win Olympic Medal Manuel Frederick Passes Away at 78

The first Keralite to win an Olympic medal, former national hockey team goalkeeper Manuel Frederick passed away in Bengaluru in 2025. The 78-year-old was under treatment for cancer for some time.
Frederick, who hails from Kannur, was a member of the Indian team that won bronze at the 1972 Munich Olympics, defeating the Netherlands. A recipient of the Dhyan Chand award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games in 2019, he played for the national team for seven years, from 1971 to 78.

Eminent Surgeon Mathangi Ramakrishnan Passes Away at 91

Dr. K. Mathangi Ramakrishnan one of India's most distinguished plastic and reconstructive surgeons, passed away at the age of 91. Revered for her pioneering work in burn care and plastic surgery, she was a trailblazer who established the first government-run comprehensive burns unit in South India at Government Kilpauk Medical College (KMC), Chennai. Her career was marked by a deep blend of clinical brilliance, innovation, and compassion, especially for underprivileged patients.
She held several academic positions and received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri, BC Roy award, and the Avvaiyar award from the Tamil Nadu govt. Amidst all this, she never stopped learning.
