IIT Kanpur to Train Army Units in Advanced Cyber Defence under New Pact

  • The Indian Army's Central Command will now receive structured cybersecurity training from IIT Kanpur's C3iHub, following a new Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two sides. The programme aims to prepare Army personnel for fast-evolving digital threats and strengthen operational readiness.
  • The collaboration focusses on building the Army's capacity to respond to fast-changing digital threats.
  • The programme includes two dedicated three-month modules designed to train personnel in core cyber defence practices.
  • The modules will cover emerging cyber threats, incident response frameworks and the fundamentals needed to secure military networks.
  • The MoU was formalised in the presence of Lt Gen Naveen Sachdeva, Chief of Staff, HQ Surya Command, and Professor Somitra Sanadhya, Programme Director, C3iHub.

Indrajaal Unveils AI-enabled Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle

  • Hyderabad-based Indrajaal Drone Defence announced the launch of ADPV-a fully mobile, AI-enabled counter-drone system.
  • Named 'Indrajaal Ranger', it is India's "first anti-drone patrol vehicle", engineered to detect, track, and neutralise hostile drones, the company said.
  • The Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle has been designed as a purpose-built combat vehicle capable of on-the-move drone detection, real-time patrolling and surveillance, autonomous threat assessment through AI, instant interception and neutralisation, and seamless coverage across border roads, canals, agricultural belts, critical infrastructure, and dense urban areas.

Indian Army's Trishakti Corps begins AMAR combat training at high altitudes exceeding 14000 ft

  • Indian Army Trishakti Corps commenced intensive Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR) training at altitudes exceeding 14,000 ft, significantly enhancing close-combat readiness in some of the most demanding operational zones along the Northern Borders.
  • According to PRO Defence, this training is conducted in sub-zero temperatures, rarefied air, and rugged terrain. This training aims to prepare soldiers to respond effectively, even when conventional weapons are not immediately available.

Army to Officially Honour Operation Pawan Martyrs after 38 Years

  • For the first time in 38 years, the Indian Army will officially commemorate the soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Pawan, one of India's most challenging external military missions. Conducted in Sri Lanka from 1987 to 1990, the operation marked a major chapter in India's strategic engagement abroad and resulted in heavy casualties. The long-awaited tribute brings national recognition to thousands of personnel who served under extreme conditions during the Tamil–Sinhala conflict.
  • Operation Pawan began in 1987 after India deployed the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) to Sri Lanka under the Indo–Sri Lanka Accord. The objective was to stabilise the conflict-hit northern and eastern provinces and disarm militant groups, including the LTTE.

India and Nepal Start 19th 'Suryakiran' Military Exercise

  • India and Nepal are conducting the 19th edition of the annual bilateral military Exercise Suryakiran from November 25 to December 8 in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
  • According to the Indian Army, the exercise with the Nepal Army aims to strengthen operational synergy in conducting jungle warfare and counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain.
  • It also focuses on integration of niche technology to enhance interoperability while sharing best practices, reflecting the shared commitment of India and Nepal towards global peace and security, while further deepening defence cooperation, camaraderie and mutual trust between both armies.
  • The exercise is an annual training event conducted alternatively in the two countries.

BEL & Safran Sign JV to Manufacture HAMMER Precision Weapon in India

  • Bharat Electronics Limited and Safran Electronics and Defence of France signed a Joint Venture Cooperation Agreement in New Delhi, for the production of Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range (HAMMER) Smart Precision Guided Air-to-Ground Weapon.
  • Ministry of Defence said that the agreement will localise the manufacturing, supply and maintenance of HAMMER to meet the operational needs of the Air Force and Navy.
  • The transfer of production will happen in a phased manner with Bharat Electronics Limited leading final assembly, testing and quality assurance. HAMMER is a combat-proven, precision-guided weapon system known for its high accuracy and modular design, making it adaptable for multiple platforms, including the Rafale and Light Combat Aircraft Tejas.

Indian Navy Commission First Indigenous Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Warship

  • The Indian Navy commissioned its first indigenous anti-submarine warfare shallow watercraft (ASW-SWC) Mahe at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The vessel is poised to script another milestone in its indigenous shipbuilding journey.
  • Mahe is the first of the eight ASW-SWC built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL), the contract for the same was awarded by the Ministry of Defence to CSL in April 2019. With the blend of firepower, stealth and mobility, the 78-metre-long warship is designed to hunt submarines, conduct coastal patrols and secure India's vital maritime approaches.
  • The commissioning ceremony was hosted by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, flag officer commanding-in-chief of the Western Naval Command and was presided over by General Upendra Dwivedi, chief of the army staff.
