Sri Lanka Announces Visa-free Access from 35 Countries
The Sri Lankan government announced visa-free access to citizens from 35 countries, including India, the UK and the US to the island nation for six months.
The Cabinet made the decision which will be in effect from October 1, 2024, said Adviser to the Ministry of Tourism, Harin Fernando.
Countries on the list include India, the UK, China, the US, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Australia, Denmark, Poland, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Nepal, Indonesia, Russia, and Thailand.
Other countries include Malaysia, Japan, France, Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Israel, Belarus, Iran, Sweden, South Korea, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and New Zealand.
M. Suresh Appointed as Interim Chairman of Airports Authority of India
M. Suresh, Member, Air Navigation Services, Airports Authority of India (AAI) was entrusted with additional charge as Chairman of AAI. This is subsequent to relieving Sanjeev Kumar of his duties as AAI Chairman.
Hailing from Tenkasi district in Tamil Nadu, Suresh will hold the post for three months or until a regular incumbent joins or until further orders.

Cabinet Nod to Expansion of Patna and Siliguri Airports
The Union Cabinet approved the proposals for setting up of new civil enclaves at Bihta airport in Patna, Bihar, and Bagdogra airport in Siliguri, West Bengal, at a cost of Rs. 1,413 crore and Rs. 1,549 crore, respectively.
Apart from being significant in terms of infrastructure development, the expansion of Bihta airport (in Patna) is politically important, considering the fact that the JD(U) is lending crucial support to the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the two proposals of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
The key components of the project include the construction of an Apron capable of accommodating 10 parking bays suitable for A-321/B-737-800/A-320 type aircraft, as well as two link taxiways.

Indian Railways and NCRTC Launch 'One India-One Ticket' Initiative
Indian Railways and the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) partnered to promote the 'One India-One Ticket' initiative, aiming to streamline travel for passengers using both mainline railway services and Namo Bharat trains. This collaboration will enable a unified booking system, allowing commuters to seamlessly travel between Indian Railways and RRTS services.
After purchasing an IRCTC train e-ticket, passengers can book Namo Bharat train tickets for up to eight travelers in a single transaction. RRTS ticket booking options will appear on the PNR confirmation page and within the user's booking history. Each RRTS ticket will feature a unique QR code valid for four days, including the day before the journey, the journey date, and two subsequent days. The Namo Bharat ticket will also come with a separate QR code for a smooth travel experience.
