International Vulture Awareness Day

The first Saturday of September marks International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD), an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about the world's most imperilled group of birds. This initiative, which began in South Africa and the United Kingdom, has been observed since September 2009. Vultures, often misunderstood and unfairly maligned, play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. Despite their association with death and perceived negative traits, these birds are, in fact, the unsung heroes of the natural world. As the only land-dwelling obligate scavengers, vultures provide essential ecological services that benefit both the environment and human society.
In 2024, it was marked on September 7.

ONDC Receives Gold Award for "Application of Emerging Technologies for Providing Citizen-Centric ...

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) was awarded the prestigious Gold Award under the category "Application of Emerging Technologies for Providing Citizen-Centric Services" in the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) during the 27th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG).
The National Awards for e-Governance by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) are recognised amongst the most competitive and prestigious digital governance recognition in the country. The objective of the award is to recognise and promote excellence in implementation of e-Governance initiatives and to encourage innovation in successful e-Governance solutions. The NAeG are conferred under different categories each year during the National Conference on E-Governance (NCeG). The Conference is organised every year by the DARPG in collaboration with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and respective State Government hosting the annual event. The Government of Maharashtra hosted the 27^th Edition of the NCeG in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Women and Child Development Ministry Wins 2024 e-Governance Gold for Poshan Tracker

The Ministry of Women and Child Development was honoured with the National Award for e-Governance 2024 (Gold) for its digital initiative, Poshan Tracker. This tool, part of Mission Poshan 2.0, enables real-time monitoring of children's growth, focusing on those aged 0-6 years. Using WHO growth charts, the program tracks key anthropometric data, including height and weight, helping Anganwadi Workers identify nutritional deviations early and intervene promptly. The program has achieved significant milestones, covering 8.9 crore children, with 8.57 crore measured in just one month.
The Poshan Tracker, an ICT-based system, plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely identification of growth issues among children. With Growth Measuring Devices (GMD) available at every Anganwadi Centre (AWC), accurate data entry and continuous monitoring are carried out to provide targeted nutritional interventions. The initiative has shown impressive results, contributing to improved health and nutritional outcomes for millions of children.

On Teacher's Day, 82 Educators Conferred upon Special Awards

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the 'National Teachers' Award to 82 educators from across institutions, during a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan on the occasion of Teacher's Day.
Fifty of the total 82 awardees are attached with schools, 16 (higher education), and 16 (Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship).
Murmu congratulated the winners and said that "teachers have to prepare citizens who are not only educated but also sensitive, honest and enterprising". Mentioning that moving ahead in life is success, but the meaning of life lies in working for the welfare of others, she stated: "We should have compassion. Our conduct should be ethical. A successful life lies in a meaningful life. Teaching these values to the students is the duty of teachers."

Venice Film Festival 2024

Venice International Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world, with its 81st edition opening on Wednesday. There will be a number of big Hollywood movies and films from other countries. Some of the prominent movies in Venice Film Festival 2024 are -- "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice", "Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 2", 'Wolfs', "Joker: Folie à Deux", 'Maria', 'Queer', "The Room Next Door", 'Babygirl', "The Brutalist", "Youth (Homecoming)", "The Order", 'Harvest', and "BONUS: Disclaimer".
Venice Film Festival 2024 opens on August 28 with the premiere of the US comedy horror "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice", directed by Tim Burton. The event runs until September 7 and closes with an Italian film, "The American Backyard", directed by Pupi Avati.
