  • The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani) and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Hyderabad (TIFRH) partnered to promote academic excellence and innovative research.
  • This partnership is established to provide opportunities including short-term mutual exchange of students, specialised courses, joint research programmes, joint PhD and joint masters programmes. Students from BITS and TIFRH will have opportunities to undertake short-term projects and specialised courses at either institution, contributing to their degree requirements and research experience.

IIM-Lucknow, FPSB India to Jointly Offer Certification Programme in Financial Planning

  • The Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM L) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FPSB India to jointly launch a certification programme in Financial Planning. This programme by IIM Lucknow will be launched in the academic session 2024-25, and will be available to both students and working professionals.
  • Through this partnership, IIM Lucknow is hoping to address the industry gap by preparing a new generation of financial planners equipped with the skills to offer holistic financial services. Another key feature of this partnership is 'empowering individuals to pursue rewarding careers not just in India, but globally, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,' IIM Lucknow said.

Delhi Education Department Bans Use of Non-NCERT, SCERT Textbooks in Schools

  • The Delhi Education Department issued a strict directive to all recognised private schools, prohibiting textbooks for elementary classes that are not prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) or the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). This mandate ensures compliance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.
  • As per the directives, schools mandating students to study textbooks not included in the prescribed list of NCERT or SCERT will be in violation of the RTE Act.
  • The directive underscores that no child should face discrimination, harassment, or neglect for using books approved by the academic authorities. Violating these guidelines, which causes 'mental or physical suffering' to students, could invoke the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015.

In a First, Centre Issues SOPs for Transportation of Human Organs

  • The Union Health Ministry came out with its first-ever Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for seamless transport of human organs through various modes of travel, which will allow airlines carrying them to request the Air Traffic Control for priority take-off and landing and also arrange front-row seats.
  • "By streamlining organ transport process, we aim to maximise the utilisation of precious organs and offer hope to countless patients awaiting life-saving transplants," Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra said.
  • According to the SOPs for transportation by air, airlines carrying human cadaveric organs can request the Air Traffic Control for priority take-off and landing of the aircraft and arrange front-row seats. Airport officials should define a 'green corridor', free from obstruction, and a trolley for the organ box from ambulance to the aircraft at the airport of origin and vice versa.

Dr. Grinson George Assumes Role of Director of ICAR-CMFRI

  • Dr. Grinson George assumed the role of Director at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). Previously, he led the Marine Biodiversity and Environment Management Division at CMFRI and served as Senior Programme Specialist at SAARC in Dhaka.
  • Dr. George brings over two decades of experience as a seasoned fishery researcher. His expertise spans fishery resource management, marine biodiversity, environment management, fisheries oceanography, remote sensing, and climate change.
  • Dr. George has led high-impact research projects both nationally and internationally, funded by agencies such as the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, ISRO, and ICAR's NICRA project.

BHU Inks MoU with Competitiveness Mindset Institute to Train Students on Ethical Leadership

  • Banaras Hindu University (BHU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Competitiveness Mindset Institute – India to train students on ethical leadership.
  • The Finding Leader in You Scholar (FLY Scholar) programme is an initiative that has significantly benefited hundreds of students of the university, BHU claims.
  • Over 1300 students have received the FLY training over the past one and a half years, since the start of the programme in BHU. The training, being conducted in collaboration with Competitiveness Mindset Institute, 'aims to foster a new generation of leaders who are not only skilled and knowledgeable but also deeply committed to ethical principles and social responsibility.

NIT-C Launches 'Nivahika' Web Portal for Data Management

  • National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) took a significant leap in data management with the launch of its cutting-edge web portal, 'Nivahika.' Inaugurated by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NITC, in a ceremony at the Senate Hall, the portal is set to transform how the Institute handles and reports data.
  • "The ministry often requests detailed reports and updates on our activities. With Nivahika, we now have a reliable tool that ensures accuracy and consistency, aiding in everything from ministry submissions to national rankings," said Prof. Krishna. He emphasised that Nivahika is not just a milestone for NITC but also sets benchmark for other National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across the country once fully operational. Nivahika is a model for data management across the educational sector.
  • Nivahika will not only streamline the availability of institutional data but will also provide secure access to authorised personnel.

IIT Kanpur Signs MoU with BIRD for Training, Research

  • IIT Kanpur's IITK Foundation for Advanced Consulting, Education and Training (IFACET) announced a strategic partnership with Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow.
  • This collaboration aims to enhance training, research, and joint initiatives across several key areas. The MoU was officially signed by Prof B. V. Phani, Project Director of IFACET; and Shefali Agrawal, Joint Director of BIRD.
  • The partnership focuses on advancing training and research through a multifaceted approach. IFACET and BIRD will develop and update training modules to align with the latest industry trends and technological advancements. Key areas of focus include banking and finance, microfinance, FinTech, AgriTech, climate change and finance, digital agriculture, digital banking, human resource development, the use of AI in banking and finance, and cybersecurity. KIIT DU Awarded Prestigious UN ECOSOC Special Consultative Status (4)

  • KIIT Deemed to be University was granted the distinguished Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), recognising the University's substantial contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From a pool of 476 applications around the World, only 19 organisations, including KIIT DU, were selected for this prestigious honour. UP Government Removes Rs. 5 lakh Fine for Leaving Medical Seat

  • Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak informed the Legislative Council that the rule of imposing a fine of Rs. 5 lakh for giving up a medical seat in medical education institutions is no longer effective in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Earlier, for giving up a medical seat, a fine of Rs. 5 lakh had to be paid. He gave this information to the House in response to a question asked by SP's Man Singh Yadav during the Question Hour.
