Govt. Appeals to Punjab, Three other States to Implement RTE

  • The Centre appealed to the state governments to implement the provision of the Right to Education, which mandates 25 per cent of seats for the children from economically weaker sections in private unaided schools.
  • The state governments such as Punjab, Kerala, Telangana and West Bengal have not implemented RTE provisions mandating the private schools to reserve seats under the RTE Act, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary informed the Rajya Sabha.

Dhiraj Singh Appointed FTII Director

  • Senior information service officer Dhiraj Singh was appointed as the director of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
  • Singh, an Indian Information Service officer of the 1995 batch, was the additional director general in the Press Information Bureau in-charge of media and communications of the Prime Minister's Office.
  • He has a five-year tenure as FTII director. Singh succeeded Sandeep Shahare to the post.

BITS Pilani Opens Research Centre for National Security at Hyderabad Campus

  • Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani Hyderabad announced the inauguration of a new Centre for Research Excellence in National Security (CRENS). This strategic initiative aims to significantly enhance the nation's security capabilities through indigenous technology development by joint research, skill development and entrepreneurship.
  • CRENS will play a crucial role in supporting the country to become self-reliant in the national security domain in collaboration with DRDO, ISRO, DAE, Tri-services, Paramilitary Forces, Police, Defence PSUs and Industries.   • The inauguration ceremony of CRENS was graced by Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Former Secretary DD R&D, Former Chairman of DRDO, and Former Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, as the Chief Guest. Dr Reddy officially inaugurated CRENS and unveiled its logo.

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya's First Executive Training Program for the Aviation Sector

  • Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) held its first executive training program for the aviation sector at the Asian Institute of Transport Development (AITD) at Dwaraka, New Delhi. The three-day program from August 5 to 7 focused on 'Safety Management Systems' for working professionals, it was conducted in collaboration with Airbus.
  • The program attracted participants from leading airlines such as IndiGo, Vistara, as well as representatives from Airbus and the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Notably, the course was attended by international professionals, including four participants from Nepal and four from Bhutan. The instructors for the program were leading experts from the industry.
  • The course was inaugurated by Group Captain GVG Yugandhar Director General, Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Sunil Bhaskaran Director, Air India Aviation Academy in presence of GSV Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manoj Choudhary and Dean (Executive Education) Prof. Pradeep Garg.

Gujarat Expands Eklavya Schools to 44, Benefiting over 11,000 Tribal Students

  • The number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Gujarat rose to 44 since their inception in 2003, now serving over 11,000 students from the tribal community.
  • These schools provide free, quality education to children from Classes 6 to 12, with modern facilities that include six interactive LEDs, smart technology, and green boards for immersive e-learning.
  • Tribal Development Minister Kuber Dindor highlighted that more than 12 lakh tribal students have benefited from pre-matric scholarships, while approximately 2.5 lakh have received post-matric scholarships.

Delhi Education Department Bans Use of Non-NCERT, SCERT Textbooks in Schools

  • The Delhi Education Department issued a strict directive to all recognised private schools, prohibiting textbooks for elementary classes that are not prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) or the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). This mandate ensures compliance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009.
  • As per the directives, schools mandating students to study textbooks not included in the prescribed list of NCERT or SCERT will be in violation of the RTE Act.
  • The directive underscores that no child should face discrimination, harassment, or neglect for using books approved by the academic authorities. Violating these guidelines, which causes 'mental or physical suffering' to students, could invoke the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015.

In a First, Centre Issues SOPs for Transportation of Human Organs

  • The Union Health Ministry came out with its first-ever Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for seamless transport of human organs through various modes of travel, which will allow airlines carrying them to request the Air Traffic Control for priority take-off and landing and also arrange front-row seats.
  • "By streamlining organ transport process, we aim to maximise the utilisation of precious organs and offer hope to countless patients awaiting life-saving transplants," Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra said.
  • According to the SOPs for transportation by air, airlines carrying human cadaveric organs can request the Air Traffic Control for priority take-off and landing of the aircraft and arrange front-row seats. Airport officials should define a 'green corridor', free from obstruction, and a trolley for the organ box from ambulance to the aircraft at the airport of origin and vice versa.
