His innovative idea gave rise to a sport that would eventually gain global popularity.
The global significance of basketball was officially acknowledged by the United Nations General Assembly on August 25, 2023, through the adoption of resolution A/RES/77/324. This resolution declared December 21 as World Basketball Day, celebrating the sport's ability to bring together people from all walks of life.
