First-ever Canadian High School Programme Debuts in an Indian Classroom
Ahmedabad is now home to a significant first in Indian education. Udgam Consultancy, a key player in Gujarat's school ecosystem, has partnered with Canada's Rosedale International Education to offer the globally recognised Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) — making it the first institution in India to do so.
This marks a new chapter for students in Ahmedabad, who can now access a Canadian high school curriculum, known for its emphasis on skills, global citizenship, and real-world learning, without ever leaving their home city.
Delhi Ranked World's Most Affordable Student City in QS 2026 Rankings
In a significant recognition of India's growing status in global education, the QS Best Student Cities Rankings 2026 saw four major Indian cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai, make strong upward progress. Most notably, Delhi was named the world's most affordable student city, marking a major boost to India's reputation as an attractive destination for higher education. The rankings reflect improvements in factors such as university quality, cost of living, and graduate employability.
The QS Best Student Cities Rankings, published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds, are based on several indicators that matter to students and universities alike. These include academic reputation, student diversity, affordability, employer activity, and desirability of the city.
Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates India Campus of University of Southampton in Gurugram
Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education, inaugurated the India campus of the University of Southampton in Gurugram, Haryana, along with Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister of Haryana.
The inauguration marked a significant milestone in India's higher education landscape, commemorating five years of the National Education Policy 2020. The University of Southampton, a QS Top 100 global institution and founding member of the UK's Russell Group, became the first foreign university to operationalise a campus in India under the University Grants Commission's (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations.

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla (HPNLU) announced the appointment of former Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna as a Distinguished Professor.
Justice Sanjiv Khanna served as the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India and retired on May 13, 2025.

India Wins 2 Gold, 2 Silver Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad 2025
India's four-member student delegation to the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2025 returned with two gold and two silver medals. The competition was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and featured participation from 354 students representing 90 countries, along with five observer nations. This marked India's 26th appearance at the IChO.
The Indian team was selected and trained by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai, under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).

JNU Hosts First Indian Knowledge Meet
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated the first annual academic conference on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) hosted by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
The conference, themed 'The Resurgence of IKS: Finding what we have, learning what we learnt,' marked a significant initiative to promote Indic traditions across disciplines.
The conference, organised in collaboration with the Indian Knowledge Systems Heritage Alliance (IKSHA), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), received over 600 extended abstracts from more than 120 institutions.
Of these, 100 papers were selected for presentation across 17 focused sessions based on originality, rigour, and relevance.

In a push towards empowering tribal students, the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, unveiled a series of initiatives to enhance education, life skills, and employability for students studying in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across the country.
NESTS signed landmark agreements with UNICEF India, Tata Motors Limited, and the Ex-Navodayan Foundation to roll out programmes that will support over 1.3 lakh tribal students in their academic and professional journeys.

A two-day Vice Chancellors' Conference of Central Universities Held in Gujarat
Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu participated in the two-day Vice Chancellors' Conference of Central Universities on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Action: Transforming Higher Education held in Statue of Unity, Kevadia, Gujarat on July 10 and 11.
Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education was the Chief guest and inaugurated the conference. Dr. Vineet Joshi Chairman, UGC & Secretary, Higher Education, Government of India gave the opening remarks about the conference. Vice- Chancellors from leading universities across India, senior officials from the Ministry of Education and UGC, as well as academic leaders and policy experts participated in the conference.
The conference focused on Central Universities' role as drivers of educational transformation and their contribution to Viksit Bharat@2047, critical themes in higher education policy, institutional governance, research and innovation and national development priorities.
