Dharmendra Pradhan Releases NIRF India Rankings 2025
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras retained its position as India's top higher education institution in the government's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, marking its seventh straight year at the top in the overall category.
The Ministry of Education released the 10th edition of the rankings. IISc Bengaluru was ranked as the best university, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education at second and third positions, respectively.
Hindu College, Delhi, retained its top rank in the colleges category, while Miranda House and Hansraj College secured the second and third spots.
IIT Madras also topped the engineering category, followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. IIM Ahmedabad emerged as the country's best management institute, while Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, secured the first position in the pharmacy category. In the field of medical education, AIIMS New Delhi retained its position as the best medical college in India.
This year's (2025) rankings assessed institutions across 17 categories, using parameters such as teaching, research, graduation outcomes, inclusivity and perception.
Institutions were ranked on five key parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusivity; and perception.
The NIRF was first introduced in 2015 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education) to provide a transparent framework for evaluating higher education institutions across the country.

India Offers 1,000 E-Scholarships to Afghan Students for 2025-26
In a gesture of continued academic and diplomatic outreach, India has announced 1,000 e-scholarships for Afghan students for the academic year 2025–26. The scholarships will be granted under the Special Scholarship Scheme for Afghan Nationals (SSSAN) administered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) through the e-VidyaBharati (e-VB) i-learn portal. NCERT Launches Bal Vatika TV and DIKSHA 2.0 on 65th Foundation Day
Marking its 65th foundation day, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) launched new initiatives, including Bal Vatika DTH TV channel and DIKSHA 2.0 to strengthen digital and inclusive learning in line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Punjab Becomes First State to Introduce Entrepreneurship in Class 11
Punjab became the first state in India to embed entrepreneurship as a core subject in school education. The announcement was made by Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, alongside Punjab AAP Incharge Manish Sisodia.
The new subject will be offered to Class 11 students from the 2025-26 academic year.
The initiative is aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, encouraging students to become job creators rather than job seekers. The minister said the course will empower young minds to emerge as innovators, problem-solvers and community leaders.
The curriculum has been designed to be experiential and project-based rather than exam-driven. Students will form teams, generate business ideas, develop prototypes, pitch for seed funding and even launch products or services.
With 18 periods annually, three dedicated to theory and fifteen to project work, the structure ensures engaging lessons without adding extra pressure.

The Ministry of Education released the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2024-25 report, providing a detailed overview of school education across India. For the first time since UDISE+ was launched, the total number of teachers in the country has crossed the one crore mark, signaling a significant boost to the education system.
According to the report, the teacher workforce increased from 94.8 lakh in 2022-23 to over 1.01 crore in 2024-25, a rise of 6.7% over two years. This growth is helping improve the student-teacher ratio (PTR).
